The 50 billion yuan figure in the article is obviously an error. I googled the scandal and found multiple sources that said the jackpot was $80 million U.S., which would be about 500 million yuan. So there's no doubt in my mind that 500 million yuan is the correct figure.

Thanks again i wish i had read this eariler when you posted this. My tution is very good right now but i just can't get it together i am even sharing but still can't seem to get it together... I been trying to get to hospital to see my friend work is good but there was an error about something so i got my mind on that too...a close friend Died of Brain Cancer. It's going to be me and I will tell you why. I purchased tickets for the lottery pool at work and the lady screwed up and added power play which was $80 more than what I should have paid. I could have said I didnt want them but I started thinking. What if the people at the store pooled together and purchased the error tickets while I got what I wanted then their ticket won? Also today is my birthday so that will be a wonderful gift :D

This was simply player error. This is going to haunt him to the end, but it was his fault. Rules are rules. Sucks to be him but I feel for the guy. You have to play to win, he did play to win and won but still lost, go figure. Timing is everything.

Why, they didn't make the ticket. One of their vendors did. They admitted the ticket was printed incorrectly and reported it to the vendor. They offered fair compensation. The player realized the error in the printing process and tried to capitalize on it and succeeded by getting 5 times the value for his losing ticket. How could he think his ticket was worth 2X the top prize?
