An Ethical Dilemma...
No, I know what some of you're saying -- that even if I had won, it wouldn't have necessarily been the same four tickets that they would have gotten if they had actually used the machine correctly. But karmically, I would have known that I had gotten that win through someone else's loss (small though it may be), and I would still have felt guilty about it. Some of you are surely thinking What's the big deal? , I know And I probably would have gotten over it quickly if I had millions of dollars.

Letting Someone Else Claim My Powerball Winnings
If indeed it is only $400, (and I just checked the Maine website and believe the $400 is the correct amount) you should be able to claim without filing any forms, thus no reports to gov't. agencies. Go to a lottery retailer and ask if they can cash a $400 ticket. Bet they can. Don't let the naysayers in this thread get you down. I've seen several threads here that they play Pick 3 on different tickets so the winnings won't go over $600 and they won't have to report and be taxed on the winn

7-7-7 was a lucky day!!
Think of it as buying sports tickets or theatre tickets over the phone, and picking them up at the 'will call' window. The guy WILL sell them, or he would not print them. And retailers don't like to 'eat' anything, so I'm sure he knows his market. It's not a question of 'being fair' - it's called 'business', and it's not like a Casino because money and items change hands for future use, not on-the-spot like at a Blackjack table. If we wanted to get into 'fairness' and possibly 'ethics', t

7-7-7 was a lucky day!!
No point in arguing about this. I guess I am foolish to think there are ethics in gambling. Of course a person purchasing 10 tickets has a greater chance of winning than someone who buys only one. I was only saying that I don't believe in special treatment, and a store owner who prints extra tickets for his regular customers is giving them an advantage. My original comment about this matter was in response to a post stating that this was the case. Yes, it's true that nobody should wait un

7 million in another country, might be as good as 70 million, Still... If it took the whole sha-bang, to bail me out of all that trouble, (7 Mil) Thats what I'd do, and start over. Besides..... Moral Question: Doctor or Lottery Winner?
I'm kinda with you: I have my own morals and my own ethics, they are basically things like don't mess with married women, don't mess with anyone under the age of 18, don't steal, don't commit crime: basically don't intentionally do things to hurt others, physically, mentally or financially. Don't drink and drive, etc. (although it is fun to screw with peoples' mentality at times..) I don't mind funding a food bank or a homeless shelter, or a place for battered women to go, things like tha

Ethics or Not
??? I don't understand this poll. This really has nothing to do with ethics at all. I don't think you have much of a choice in this case. You cannot cash the ticket if someone else's name is on the back of it. When you walk into the Lottery Office, they will ask for 2 forms of ID including a photo ID (driver's license, passport) and your social security number. So whoever chooses this answer is admitting to Identity Theft! Second, if there is any suspicious activity, the Lottery Of

Former N.C. Lottery commissioner sentenced to 4 years in prison
Former lottery commissioner Kevin Geddings was sentenced to four years in prison today on charges that he hid his financial ties to a company expected to bid for the state's lottery business. US District Court Judge James Dever the Third imposed a prison term seven months longer than the maximum sentence recommended by court officials. They suggested that Geddings receive up to almost three and a half years in prison. Dever also fined Geddings $25,000 but says he doesn't have to report t

Change in Penn. Lottery scratch tickets removes shortcut
Lckylry- To each there own. I personally see NO sense in scratching off the whole thing only to know by the Loser letters that I lost. Pardon me if I dont care to in essense to endure the losing pain by completing the scratch off. End result is the same. A losing ticket is a losing ticket. If I see an M, C or an L I know I am on the right track to win big! Grammy3- Glad to know my groups hypothesis is merited in some truth. Thanks for pointing out the validity of our theory. The PA lottery d
