Powerball winner dies penniless, 12 years after winning $27 million
Yes, you are correct, this news article is missing some key pieces included in some past news stories, that 70% of big lottery winners go broke in 5 years. David Edwards is, unfortunately, in good company.

Powerball winner dies penniless, 12 years after winning $27 million
Rest in peace Mr. Edwards. Cautionary tale indeed. But it's sad the article didn't mention some of the good he did with his money. If I remember correctly, he helped out a few people when he won. I think he paid for one lady to have eye surgery or something like that.

Brad Duke Wins Again
If was actually from an old article from 2007 where he said his net worth was about $130 million that he made from investments. It has probably increased or decreased depending if he made or lost any money. http://money.cnn.com/2007/02/20/magazines/fortune/lottery_winnings.fortune/

Postal worker prevents man from losing thousands to lottery scams
Plus, sadly, some of these responders live alone and have a slight or heavy case of Dementia and/or Alzheimer brain trouble. The wife in this article, QUICKLY, needs to gain custodianship over her husband so that he can no longer make withdrawals from their bank accounts! It's the only remaining, loving thing she can do for their future welfare.

Twelve things not to do if you win the lottery
I think the article had a bit of 'tongue in cheek' aspect to it. At least that's how I read it. Seriously enough it did point out errors winners had made (I recognized several). The tone of the article was pretty much 'don't do that' and you'll be ok. I still have problems with rules states have for claiming the prize, and not allowing winners to remain anonymous. Having to go public gets most winners off to a bad start and habits. If you can claim anonymously at least you can ge

Would you take your JP winnings and invest it all by yourself?
The kind of trust I would envision would of necessity require the services of a knowledgeable attorney. The situation would be quite complex and would involve people in several states. And I'd want an accountant to look into the community foundations I would contemplate using instead of setting up my own charitable foundation. My domestic partner and I have each independently invested and traded for decades, but if I suddenly had millions to invest, I'd definitely want to seek outside investment

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
Maybe reread this thread? I said that those states (DE, KS, MD, ND, OH) that allow anonymity are the only ones that state explicity in their laws that a person can remain anonymous. Some people in this thread believe that South Carolina is an anonymous state because in the Lottery Post article that we are discussing, this person wishes to remain anonymous. I've been saying throughout that they can wish it all day long, but that anonymity is not allowed (much like Arizona and all the other sta

NJ Powerball winner wants his old life back
The funny thing is, I had never heard of nor seen this guy until a MSNBC news article about him yesterday. I did not see the press conference last month with the group, and I don't watch TTS so didn't see him on that either. But here is a concept perhaps ol' Willie isn't aware of: the more interviews you give, the more people know who you are. Keep a low profile and stay out of the media and no one outside of your immediate vicinity will even know who you are. Give it 2 years they would have sai
