Odds of a Mississippi Lottery still long, but may be improving
Democratic Rep. Alyce Clarke, who has represented Jackson in the Mississippi Legislature since 1985, is persistent.
She has been an author of legislation to create a lottery in Mississippi every session since 2003. This year, as often is the case, she has two bills filed, one to create a lottery after a statewide vote and another to simply enact the lottery after the passage of her legislation.
Clarke believes lottery revenue could be used to fund a college scholarship program as it is in

Alabama Senate kills one lottery bill; the other to be debated Friday
The Alabama Senate Thursday voted against a procedure that would have allowed a vote on a proposed lottery bill sponsored by State Sen. Jim McClendon.
Procedurally they killed the bill, at least for this session, McClendon said.
Senators voted 20 to 11 to reject a cloture motion to stop the debate on the lottery. McClendon said that if the motion was approved it would have meant a vote could be taken on the lottery and would likely have had the votes.
McClendon said that on Friday he w

Alabama lottery plan could face uphill battle
I'll believe it when I see it. It's been talked to death in this state. I'm hopeful some lottery proposal will be on the Fall ballot.
In the meanwhile, I'll still make my regular trips to Florida for lottery tickets.

Powerball Matrix Change - April 15, 2015
So based on my initial calculations, the cash jackpot in the new PB matrix would have to be $262 million for the equivalent of $150 million in the current version. I must say I am not very impressed. While they increased the 3rd tier prize, all other prizes have remained the same yet suffered increase in odds (with exception to the bottom two tiers). I had high hopes for the proposal of including the multiplier on every regular ticket, but it looks like now they are just increasing the odds la l

TLC's The Lottery Changed My Life
I remember seeing the episode about the restaurant called That one place as that is where the son had his proposal party. It's a shame that it closed up in 2013. The previous two restaurants didn't last long either.
Hard to imagine what life is now like for the Owen family as they sunk quite a bit of money into that business. I do hope the son is still married.

Should you win either jackpot: would you hesitate to write a check to fellow forumites?
In truth, this topic went off the road when you lashed out at others for daring to disagree with you. Everyone else immediately saw the foolishness of your proposal. But that does not make them coldhearted as you put it, just realistic. But I'll believe you had good intentions with the hypothetical.

Lawmakers going after unclaimed lottery money
So a guy walks into a gas station, buys a scratch-off, wins a few bucks, gets distracted with some fool thing and eventually puts the lucky ticket through the wash in his Wranglers. It happens. No big deal.
But for state lawmakers in a tough budget year nationwide, the unclaimed prizes are adding up to a tempting pot of cash.
It's something we've seen an increased interest in this year, said Jon Griffin, a policy associate at the National Conference of State Legislatures in Washington.
