Kentucky man out of debt for the first time in his life, thanks to $150,000 lottery win
QUESTION : Is the $42,000 that he paid off the top, the Federal and State INCOME TAX on $150,000 , or is it possibly his overdue property taxes , or is it the amount of mortgage he paid off ? I am asking b/c a $42,000 chunk out of $150,000 is a lot of money loss.

Thanks for all the push back you are giving them! I am not seeing alot of tickets with the promo, 1 maybe 2 everytime I play, at the most. When you think about it, I am sure someone at MDlottery got a bonus for coming up with this idea. Anything MDlottery can do to increase tax income for the state. I am really surprised we have not seen a flood of double/double triples in the pick 4 which both would trigger taxes if the promo was applied.

Illinois man celebrates Valentine's Day with $1 million lottery win three days after breakup
Yes, that 40% bite before taxes kick in would have me not purchasing this ticket anytime soon or ever actually. He should end up with closer to 400k though. He should have take the 20 yearly checks and netted 34,500.00 a year.

Any SINGLE ticket up to $5K. What you do is if you have let's say 20 straight P4's you don't cash them all at once because the agent+ bank account might get hurt, you simply cash 1 or 2 a day from different agent+'s and voila you have a fat bank account and you'll collect your 1009G's and do your taxes when the time comes....it is what I do when get multiples.

Father buys winning $1 million lottery ticket while wife waits in hospital with newborn
Oh and the best part about this story, unlike in the free and great USA, he's getting the exact amount. No taxes and no falsely advertised prize. What he won is what he gets, as it should be and is in pretty much every country on earth.

Washington, D.C. woman wins $2 million Powerball prize from lottery ticket gifted to her by husband
Wow. You are greedy. $2 million even before taxes is life changing for people. If it isn't, they didn't need the money anyway.

One Michigan lottery ticket wins $842.4 million Powerball jackpot
Blame the public. The United States is the only nation on earth that taxes lottery winners and lets Lotteries advertise a false amount of prize (loophole being lump sum cash vs amount) but people are sooo convinced they live in the greatest free country in the universe they can't even see when they are being screwed.

2024 tax rates now published at USA Mega
Both the federal tax rate brackets and the state income tax rates used for the Powerball Jackpot Analysis and Mega Millions Jackpot Analysis pages at USA Mega have been updated to the latest 2024 rates. Federal tax bracket changes happen every year, with the IRS adjusting each bracket upwards slightly to account for inflation. For a lottery jackpot winner claiming millions in income this results in a minuscule change in taxes paid, but the adjustment at USA Mega does make it exact. For s
