$360 MILLION: Powerball jackpot raised on huge sales
It worries me that people do so much to try to protect themselves, and it takes just one dingbat reporter trying to make a name for himself to ruin it.
Now this is funny: I'm reading up on these lucky people who won a jackpot, and right smack dab in the middle of the article is a huge add for a bankruptcy lawyer. Hahahahaha. I guess they thought it was only a matter of time and the money for the ad would be well spent.

is anyone making an income from lottery
You posted the link to the article so don't blame me because it says The rule of succession has been subject to much criticism, partly due to the example which Laplace chose to illustrate it.
The probability of the sun rising is exactly the same as the probability against MM or PB drawing six numbers plus a bonus number in their next drawings.
If you think the Rule of Succession will help you and Ronnie select 28 number sets to wheel which will give you BETTER ODDS to win MM and PB jackp

Do some number combinations have better odds?
The reason there are probabilities and odds is because something can happen and it's called luck or bad luck when somebody beats the odds and probabilities. Simply put, they had the 1 outcome out of many other possible outcomes.
There is a probability in this discussion that someone will make a remark or ask a question that is unrelated to the topic. There is also a probability that the person is suffering from delusions of grandeur and wants to dazzle us with their knowledge because they rea

Test Drawings
Question. With all the security that's involved in the process, why do they need so many pre-draws? I could understand one or two just to make sure the machine is operable, the air comes on, they come up the chute etc. But why five or six?
I thought the answer to that one was rather well known. They're testing both the machines and the balls for bias. If they were simply checking the machine for functionality, one or two would be sufficient, but the tests are more thorough than that.

Do some number combinations have better odds?
RJOh,
...picking numbers from a list of numbers in the order they had most recently occurred in previous drawings.
You're correct that I didn't read all the early posts in this thread, but I've read enough since I started following it to suspect that the Gambler's Fallacy would be employed to select the subsets of 12, 18, 28, 38, or whatever number is fashionable. It's no surprise as this fallacy is laughed at and joked about by Numerate people the world over, in many languages.

Do some number combinations have better odds?
Ronnie326,
I thought you'd never ask.
I just pick my 12 numbers using the least number of DIGITS possible, which is 3.
By the way, how do you account for the fact that I sometimes do better than even you, with your 5X advantage, in Maddog's Challenge, while violating one of RL-RANDOMLOGIC's Cardinal Rules, Choose number sets comprised of 5 or 6 digits?
Do you think maybe Don Catlin was on to something in his 2004 Newsletter?

Pa. Treasurer considers blocking move to private lottery operator
When you say that they are selling the lottery , are you aware that they are NOT selling the lottery?
They are talking about hiring a company to run it for them, not sell it. The state will still get all the proceeds, but instead of paying government employees to run it, they will pay a private company, which supposedly can run it cheaper than government employees could.
That last point is really the only debatable point: can a private company run the lottery cheaper and more efficiently t

Laid off Oregon man wins $1 million
Yes, that's why he's taking programming classes right now.
He was a project manager at a telecommunications company and his wife was a customer service
representative for a software contractor.
Perhaps he picked up a couple things that led him into wanting to start a software business.
According to the Yahoo article he's had ideas for software for a while now.

Beware of sharks swimming in your office lottery pool
I run a pool at my office. There are 13 of us in it total and we each put $4 on payday(every other Friday) in. We buy a mix of Powerball, Lotto, and MegaMillions tickets. My members all pay timely except for one because she got promoted to a job where she travels a lot, so I cover her and she pays me back when she returns to the office. She and I started the pool when we were office mates, then others asked to join and it's up to 13. A few of the members have since retired, but they pay me for s

Powerball - Selecting numbers
Hello everyone! I am new to the board. I read an article today on selecting lottery numbers and wanted to share.
Divide the numbers (white balls) into two groups. 1-29 and 30-59.
Use the 2/3 and 3/2 rule. Pick two numbers in the low group and three in the high, or three in the low and two in the high.
This pattern has won about 64% of the time.
When it comes to selecting even or odd numbers use the same rule. Two even numbers in the low and three in the high, or three numbers in
