Office Pool concept
I'm looking to create an office pool, and there's a lot of avid lottery players. But I'm torn on how we should create this pool. Is it better to have a higher buy-in amount but provide a better payout odds if one of the tickets win? Or, is it better to have a low buy-in amount, but the prizes will be split by 10,000 participants? (not sure if I would go that extreme, but definitely a possibility.) I therefore don't think it's worth it to compare a three game draw and a two game draw, I don't feel that's it's really comparing apples to apples. IMHO the sensible comparison is by the week. When PB added the 3rd draw the sales for Wednesday and Saturday drawings went down a little bit, but by adding Monday sales they got a modest increase in weekly sales. People can only profit from buying all possible combinations in jackpot games that increase their prize amounts until someone wins. It makes no sense to apply this law to smaller games like Pick 3 4 because the prize amounts never increase, so there is no point in buying all possible combinations. How do you actually pick your numbers?Reply
When I first started playing I used street numbers from places I'd lived. IIRC, all but one were birthday numbers. I think NY lotto only had 40 numbers at the time so it didn't matter much that most of my numbers were ones other people might play more often. At some point after that I switched to a combination of numbers that I figured most people wouldn't choose, hoping to increase my chance of being a sole winner. Then they introduced quick picks, so 70 to 80% of players no longer have numbers
