Kansas House proposal would create tax on lottery tickets
From the OP:
The legislation is the latest attempt to tackle the state's growingbudget deficit without more cuts to schools and other state programs.
The proposal, which was forwarded to the House on Tuesday, wouldimpose the 5.3 percent state sales tax on all electric, gas and waterbills. The bill would repeal an exemption that allows churches to avoidthe sales tax on their purchases.
It also requires a sales tax on lottery tickets a move that wouldactually cost the state money. To part

Non-lottery forum poll
I respect everyone who responded negatively to the proposal in this topic and their opinions but it raises a question in my mind.
If this off topic banter is something you don't like seeing; what would be the harm of having a forum for it where you could choose to avoid it?
I don't have a mind for numbers per se and don't particularly enjoy reading posts about mathematical equations and possibilities and such but I can't imagine objecting to a forum for that purpose just because I don't en

What if we spend those 6 million a year into tactically trying to win Powerball or Florida Lotto or any Pick6/52 lotto...
Don't you know you would have to buy 98 million Powerball tickets just to get a 50/50 chance of winning the jackpot?
And at that point the after tax cash value would have to be equal to that amount just to break even. Granted you're talking about using a lesser amount ($6 million), but never said how you would tactically use it. Basically you're only suggesting that 9

Connecticut lottery agents protest cut in commissions
I agree, Todd.
One percent equals only a penny per ticket for online games; not a significant savings to the lottery or to the state, but it represents one-fifth of a retailer's income from online sales. Scratch-offs account for a greater percentage of sales in Connecticut (compared to their online games), so tickets costing $2.00 to $20.00 or more will really take a bite.
The scary part is that once even one state passes such legislation, most other state lotteries will jump on the

Prop 1C would change the California Lottery
Well, I guess I understand the desire to keep the lottery revenues targeted on education, but I think there is a much larger issue in the state of California, and this seems like one of the only ways to help it.
The problem with education in that state is that all the extremely liberal politicians that keep getting elected by the residents of the state are forking out huge amounts of money to illegal aliens, giving them access to public education, medical benefits, and every other type of pub

Washington Lottery may add Powerball to lineup
Washington lottery players may soon be able to buy tickets for the Powerball multi-state game at their local grocery, deli or convenience store.
A proposal that will be heard before the Senate Ways and Means committee this afternoon would allow the Washington Lottery to link with other multi-state games without getting Legislative permission first.
Currently, the Mega Millions is the only multi-state game played in Washington.
This bill would allow the lottery to sell additional multi-
