Wisconsin Lottery switches to computers to select winning numbers
I do agree that any computer system can be compromised (as can a mechanical system). It is a constant battle to study what has gone wrong and what might go wrong so that we can stay ahead of the bad guys. You are quite right that humans are a big problem. Even with our RNG, if the independent auditor, the lottery person (or persons for many states) and someone at the control ageny (in WI's case, the Department of Revenue) conspire together, they can put out a press release with any numbers as

Who in the Hell is goining to play that!
Quote: Originally posted by MrSteel01 on June 21, 2004Numbers are definletly random but within limits paramters what ever! this is true, and by smoothing out the stats, you can profile the ideal draw... only it is never good enough to match the next draw...I get your older posts about 1 thru 10 and sequential order... I just prefer to play only one ticket per draw (proud of myself... kept lottery spending down to $8 per week ;-) for a few weeks now... that's for 2x draws of match6 and 2x draws

Can The Guru's explain to us please
Maryland, here is a copy of what I got. Maybe you will have better luck with the instructions down at the bottom of the e-mail.This system is based on the number for five years back on the same day as your going to play. As. If your going to play on 12/20/04 then youll need the numbers on that same day for the past five years. Ect.12/20/02,12/20/01, 12/20/00, 12/20/99, 12/20/98.Taking the highest and the lowest of these totals,6906 and 6017, and allowing a good margin,we may expect to find the

Tennessee lottery sends record number of students to college
Jill Carter, a senior at Cheatham County Central High School in Ashland City, will be part of what's shaping up to be the largest college freshman class in state history. The surge of students is being driven by Tennessee's new lottery scholarships. Without them, Carter and many other high school seniors wouldn't have a chance to attend college. If I didn't get that lottery scholarship, I wouldn't have the money to go, said Carter, who has been accepted at Austin Peay State University in Clarksv

From Publishers WeeklyStrogatz is a Cornell mathematician and pioneer of the science of synchrony, which brings mathematics, physics and biology to bear on the mystery of how spontaneous order occurs at every level of the cosmos, from the nucleus on up. In this eminently accessible and entertaining book, Strogatz explores the mysterious synchrony achieved by fireflies that flash in unison by the thousands, and the question of what makes our own body clocks synchronize with night and day and even

Open Discussion: Define/Refine Prediction
Sorry for additional post, but trying to get as much in before I have to leave the PC for the day...Past comments here:Mention was made of circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle and 3 blank lines -- with no formula for discerning the pattern.OK, but what if the sequence had been:circle, square, trianglesquare, triangle, square-- what do you think the next three would be? And what formula would you use? It all starts with math and ends with math and probability. -- I disagree. Th

The Kentucky Lottery Corp. has shelved its plan to start fast-paced keno gambling after the game was criticized by Gov.-elect Ernie Fletcher, lottery President Arch Gleason said yesterday.Gleason told legislators that he and lottery board Chairman Bill Covington agreed that implementing the game wasn't feasible after Fletcher issued a strongly worded statement on Friday opposing its introduction.
