The Mega Millions jackpot increased by $13 million to $163 million after 11 rolls. There is an estimated 1.6% chance the Mega Millions jackpot will be won in the next draw. The jackpot is now fully funded from sales and starting to increase by more than the minimum $10 million. The Powerball jackpot is still slowly catching up to the Mega Millions jackpot. The Mega Millions jackpot is $45 million larger than the Powerball jackpot. A week ago, it was $64 million larger.

Possible effects include: potentially higher average jackpots; Average jackpots are determined by the amount that each ticket contributes to the prize and by the average number of tickets it takes to produce a winner. Neither of those has changed so the average jackpot won't change either. What may change is the frequency of jackpot winners since that's determined by the number of tickets in play and adding a new jurisdiction will presumably increase ticket sales.
