N.C. gets lottery advice from Georgia, Florida
Even as a gaming advocate, Steve Geller offers a bit of caution as North Carolina considers sanctioning a state lottery don't promise too much.Geller's home state of Florida has shipped $14 billion in lottery profits to a state education trust fund since the lottery's 1988 beginning. But it hasn't been nearly enough to escape the sort of criticisms that have come with lotteries nationwide, especially ones intended to help pay for education initiatives. It will help education, but it will never

Record lottery winner's wealth cost him dearly
It was coming up on Christmas, and Brenda-the-biscuit-lady was inexplicably happy as she walked to work in the predawn darkness. Brenda didn't just make biscuits over at the C L Super Serve for $6 an hour. She served up good cheer. How you doin', honey? she'd greet customers, with such enthusiasm that they had no choice but to smile back. Dad-gonnit, you are growing up on me! she'd call to schoolchildren, just to see them grin. What grade you in now? At 39, Brenda Higginbotham didn't have muc

For some lottery winners jackpot is a 'nightmare'
Money does solve your problems (FINANCIAL)if it's used responsibly and properly,I've read just as many GOOD stories about lottery winners as BAD .I've always been responsible with money since being in the Military in my early 20's so a JACKPOT win would be very easy for me to handle considering that I've already made plans on how to use and manage the money.People who were never responsible with money are the cause of there problems not the money. If you gave 2 people 1 million dollars and i

For some lottery winners jackpot is a 'nightmare'
What most Americans don't understand is that money is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. In any capitalistic society, the amount of money a person has access to directly corresponds to the amount of freedom that person has to move about within that society. The Robber Barons of the early 20th century understood this principal, and exploited it without shame.Steal a loaf of bread to feed your children, you go to jail because you don't have enough money to pay for the bread. Steal millio

Virginia man claims three $1 million prizes
I am sure that I am not the only one who gets annoyed whenever a jackpot or second tier winner wax on philosophically about money, saying things like, money is not everything or Money is not important...try telling that to a homeless person or someone living paycheck to paycheck despite budgeting and working multiple jobs. Like the wise man Yeezy once rapped, Having money's not everything, but having it is. With money, you can afford best healthcare. With money, you can afford to live wher

The 10 Commandments of Wealth and Happiness One of the stupidest expressions ever coined was The one who dies with the most toys wins. When you're on your death bed, you won't be thinking about the things you had - you'll be thinking about the times you had. I m now financially independent. I didn t get this way overnight, nor did I do it by selling books or advice. I did it the same way you can: one paycheck at a time over many years. One of my young staffers recently asked if I

New Florida lottery law increases prizes
Florida lottery players soon will rake in more dough when they win games such as Lotto, Mega Money and Fantasy 5, thanks to a bill signed into law Thursday by Gov. Jeb Bush. Bush, an outspoken critic of gambling, and state lottery officials are betting that the higher payouts will boost ticket sales for the games, similar to a measure passed three years ago that doubled the sales of scratch-off games.Higher sales should mean more money for education, which is the stated purpose of the new law. A

£2bn Lotto scandal
They should just give it away to any one who wants it. Then, when they run out of money, figure out if they gave it to the right people. Americans do that all the time. We call it Disaster Relief money. We even made special credit cards so we can increase the giveaway ratio. Cry, get money. Be a minority, get money. Pregnant, get money. Not pregnant, get pregnant, then get money. Drop out of school, fail test, get money to take test again. Not getting enough money, start riot, get money to stop

Why gamble at Online Lottery Sites?
If you want the schools to get money, don't play the lottery at all, just send your money to your school of choice. On the other hand, if you want to make money, play online at where-ever you can win the most money or as Jack says, give the number's racket back to the gangsters, so we can make some money, because the official crooks are a lot worse and you really don't want to give your money to them, you want to know who you are dealing with straight forward without any lies and or cloaks of h

where's the pb winner
Lets see if I can explain this in simple terms, so it can be understood. Income is income no matter what (right?), of course it is! Lets say, you won some money in what ever tax year and you have up to 365 days from the date of winning said money to go claim/collect your winnings. What is the IRS going to go by for said income ? Is the IRS going to go by when you claimed your money (365 days after you won)? or is the IRS going to go by the original date you won the money? This is a no braini
