Calif. lottery sales up 7 percent
Lottery sales are up 7 percent halfway through the fiscal year, the California Lottery reported over the weekend, representing an increase of $119 million. Lottery sales totaled $1.75 billion in the first two quarters, up from $1.53 billion in the same period a year ago. The lottery is coming off a record year that recorded sales of $3.33 billion. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday promoted the general counsel of the California Lottery to acting director.Melissa Meith, 53, a Democrat, will replace Chon Gutierrez, who retired last month.
