Winner of record $590.5 million Powerball lottery jackpot announced

At a press conference today, the Florida Lottery announced that the $590.5 million jackpot from the Powerball drawing held on May 18 was claimed by Gloria C. MacKenzie, 84, of Zephyrhills, Florida.
MacKenzie chose to receive her winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment in the amount of $370,896,780.84.
She did not speak to a crowd of reporters outside lottery headquarters, leaving quickly in a silver Ford Focus with her son, Scott Mackenzie

A man cleans out old lottery tickets from a cookie jar, and instead of throwing them away takes them to the 7-Eleven to check them out. And finds one of them is worth millions.

The Passaic, New Jersey, man who won the $338 million Powerball lottery says he felt pure joy at winning the huge jackpot, but has no idea yet what he will do with all the money.

Wyoming Senate passes lottery bill

The Wyoming Senate voted 18-10 Friday for a bill to allow a state lottery and multi-state games such as the Powerball.
However, the bill designates revenue from the games for long-term school improvements, contrary to the bill as it came from the House. The revised measure will return to the House.

A husband and wife who work for the Department of Defense won the Virginia Lottery's $217 million Powerball jackpot, the second-largest lotto prize the state has ever awarded.
Dave and Nancy Honeywell of Fredericksburg, Va. both work for the Defense Department.
