Canadian woman wins lottery on 18th birthday
A Winnipeg teen celebrated her birthday the way most of us can only dream of with a winning $1 million lottery ticket. Taylor Witzke turned 18 on Labor Day, so as an adult, she decided to buy a few lottery tickets the next day four Scratch 'n Win tickets. I scratched a Blackjack ticket and won nothing, then picked up the Set for Life ticket, Witzke said. I saw three Set for Life symbols, but thought, no, you must need four. So I turned it over and read the instructions ... I handed it to

Saskatchewan couple wins $20M lottery jackpot
Saskatchewan's most recently minted multi-millionaires may have traveled to their press conference in a limousine Thursday, but the couple say they are simple people who just happened to have won $20 million. Hopefully things won't change a lot, said Craig MacDonald, who with his wife Lorna is the winner of the Jan. 23 Lotto 6/49 draw. We may take a little more time for ourselves, maybe a bit more vacation, Craig said. We'll be learning a lot more about finance. We're very simpl

It will be up to the courts to decide if a Calgary-area man's amazing run of lotto luck will continue. Seguro Ndabene of Airdrie, just north of Calgary, has already won the lottery four times in the past five years including two wins of $1 million, another of $100,000 and a fourth prize of $50,000. The Canadian lottery that regulates sales of scratch-off tickets in three provinces and three territories sells tickets whose grand prizes are already won. It may have once seemed like a dream come true, but a winning lottery ticket has turned into a nightmare for 21 people in Okotoks, Alberta. On Nov. 23 last year, the 21, all patrons or employees at the local Elks Club, chipped in $5 each to buy tickets for that night's Super 7 draw, one of which proved to be worth $20 million. The members of the group should each have received more than $900,000 by now, but a dispute has arisen over who is entitled to a share. While they attempt to sort

Yukon lotteries go under microscope
Lottery operations in the Yukon are currently under review, in the wake of similar probes in other Canadian provinces, but Yukon lottery officials foresee no problems. The audit will examine, in part, how many lottery retailers are winning at games for which they sell the tickets something Yukon Lottery Commis

Deadline looming for unclaimed $15M lottery jackpot
All the major prizes that have gone unclaimed in Alberta since the inception of Lotto 6/49 combined don't add up to the amount the latest unclaimed jackpot is worth, Western Canada Lottery Corporation officials said Monday. The lucky, but unwitting owner of a ticket worth $14.9 million is about to let Lady Luck slip out of reach, with time to claim the prize running out next week, said WCLC spokesman John Matheson. W. Canada Lottery web mistake causes player confusion
For a moment, it appeared she'd lost her chance at $25 million well before the contest closed. A computer operator mistake led winning numbers of Western Canada Lottery Corp.'s (WCLC) Millionaire Life contest to hit the corporation's website Saturday, long before the scheduled Feb. 28 draw. That's not right. My first reaction was (to wonder) 'What kind of lottery is this if the numbers are up and they're still selling tickets?,' said Portage la Prairie resident Wendy Twiss. I
