Controversial lottery-betting service Lottoland described Australian legislation that will in effect banish it from the country as unnecessary and misguided , while newsagents and lottery sellers have welcomed the decision.

An Australian man is suing New South Wales Lotteries, saying a store clerk threw away his $3.3 million winning ticket more than two decades ago.
David Owen Renshaw said he entered an OzLotto draw in September 1997 by buying a ticket from Greenfield Park and when he returned a week later to have it processed the lotto terminal displayed the words provisional winner.

Jamaican court goes easy on lottery scammers
There are reports of disquiet among Jamaican law enforcement officials over news that 15 men who pleaded guilty to lottery scam-related charges in the Hanover Circuit Court were sentenced to fines totaling $367,000.

Russia's state-run lottery company Stoloto says a retiree has won more than half a billion rubles (US$8.5 million), the country's largest-ever jackpot.
