Sons win lottery after listening to mom's advice
By Todd Northrop
Two brothers who just hit the lotto jackpot have their mother to thank.
Jay Young and Christopher Saddler of Garfield Heights, Ohio, played the Ohio Lottery's Pick 5 last Friday, using the numbers their mother, Betty Burton, suggested. Mom gave me the numbers to play, and I gave the numbers to Chris so we both decided to get a ticket, Young told Ohio lottery officials.
As usual, mother knew best. Each brother won $25,000 that's $17,750 after taxes.

Not a move to privatization, officials say
State officials say there are no plans to privatize the Ohio Lottery Commission amid a pending top-to-bottom review of its management and a document holding out privatized state lotteries as models of interest.
A state request for proposals issued on Aug. 24 seeks a consultant to conduct a comprehensive review of the lottery and recommend ways to contain costs and maximize profits, which largely are routed to public schools.

The Ohio Lottery Commission sold $1.55 billion in instant scratch-off lottery tickets in the fiscal year ending June 30, which was $123.3 million, or 8.6 percent, more than the previous year, according to annual, unaudited sales figures released on Thursda ...

Ohio Lottery officials are considering new options to pay some winners because retailers now have less cash on hand to give out to those holding winning tickets.

Retailers can redeem winning tickets of up to $599, but Greg Bowers, Ohio Lottery finance director, said some retailers don't have enough cash on hand to pay out the prizes b ...

Ohio Lottery investigating frequent winners
The top lottery winners in Ohio have claimed hundreds of large prizes over the past decades, some in such short spans of time that it seemingly defies the odds and has prompted investigations by the Ohio Lottery.
State lottery investigators track multiple-winners to look for retailers who are either stealing prizes for themselves or store employees turning in tickets for others wanting to avoid paying off debts.
A local newspaper examined every prize claim of $600 or more going back to the ...

Ohio Lottery considering offering a $50 instant ticket
A $50 instant lottery ticket may be in the future, say Ohio Lottery officials buoyed by the success of the agency's first $30 instant ticket.
The next step in the lottery world is the $50 ticket, lottery director Dennis Berg told lottery commission members at a recent meeting. We have talked about it here and there are conflicting opinions. Logically it is the next price point, but we do not know when it will happen.
