Anyone ever notced EVERY, I mean EVERY year around the holiday season both the Power and or MegaMillions rolls over and grows to an huge jackpot? How can this be? I don't believe the lotteries are fixed but I would say that if I did that this would be a strong case to support anyone's conspiracy theories. How can this happen ever year at the same time of year????? The only one expanation I can think of is that maybe people are buying more tickets are this time for gifts or holiday spending etc?? Anyone else care to chime in?

That is not entirely true.  In 2003 both lotteries were big, Mega Millions at $155 million and Powerball at $221 million.  But in 2002 while Powerball was huge at $314 million, Mega Millions was only $63 million.  Still, I know what you mean, they do seem to be bigger in general around the holidays.

Sales for everything go up around the holidays including lottery tickets.

RJOH, that is an easy explanation expect why then do they continue roll-over? Why does no one win around this time?

It keeps rolling over cause nobody hit. When that happens and it grows people get the urge to buy more tickets and more people play. The bigger the pot and the closer to the holiday the more people feel this is their lucky time. The more people play the chance of it hitting goes up. Since it takes from 10 to 14 weeks for a pot to grow upwards of 150 million. the more likely it will fall around a holiday. Thanksgiving Christmas, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day all fit the time frame for the pot to grow if it doesn't hit in-between those times. When the pot grows upward of 150 million the frenzy to buy tickets starts. Lottery machines kick out tickets as fast as they can as people line up every day until it is won.

As the old saying goes, it's just the way the cookie crumbles.

The way the cookie crumbles, I guess we don't have many thinkers in here? The post was not a complaint, read it again, it was more like a thought, begging the question of why this happens at this time of year. It is very interesting, that it continues to roll-over more frequently this time of year.

i've thought of this a few times in the past that big jackpots happen around the holidays and sometimes the 4th of july,we all have to a certain extent a desire to know if maybe just maybe somebody controls these things behind the scenes, thats a million dollar question that might never ever be known to mankind.........

Mega millions is set up to create large jackpots with the amount of numbers and odds against winning every week. This is what the people wanted in a game. Large jackpots.!!! Their is no conspiracy no control over the game. It's a random number dvent that no on purchased a winning ticket for yet this period.

When it gets hit this period another 8 to 14 weeks down the road it will be around Easter when the next big pot is won.

one thing i've noticed is that only once when the mega millions jackpot has reached huge (over $150 million) jackpot levels have i been at college, and able to play (it's a little too far to OH or MD.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.
