How do you feel about playing the lottery?

I don't mean why you play the lottery? I know winning millions of buck is good but do you feel it is right thinking about winning millions of dollars you didn't work for with huge odds against you?

I never expect to winning the jackpot myself, That is how I justify it, but I want to come as close as possible.

I have one of those religious cousins whom were brought up to shun these things and they do. And being in the hole with the cash department really makes you think whether you are doing the right thing.

Should I have invested in some stock or be thinking about some business venture. Afterall, the odds of winning is way out there. You have to admit the lure makes for grate dreams. Oh! why?

Very simple:  you can't win if you don't play.

Check the State Lottery Report Card
What grade did your lottery earn?

Sign the Petition for True Lottery Drawings
    Help eliminate computerized drawings!

Todd said it best. You only have to pay $1 to be in the game. You dont have to spend any more than that. I believe that if you are going to win, you will win with as little as a dollar.

todd is correct with his statement. very well put.

also, i figure my number will come up sooner or later. it's either going to be death, or it will be the lottery.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

I was brought up to believe that lotteries are sinful, evil, bad.  I've abandoned that belief.  C'mon, I've started my 401(k) and other savings, it's not evil to toss a few dollars at a dream...you shouldn't feel bad about that!

Wait. I don't believe that. You mean to tell me that it is all random. So why do we come to this website. Most of you come to this forum. Besides browsing winning results, I think most of us come to this forum for other reasons.

From what you are saying, it means maximizing your play. i.e play when the jackpot is high, be involved in as much play as you can - this would entail spreading what money you got to play widely which could be playing a dollar till your money runs out. But no, I don't think that we are that efficient.

Which brings me back to my question. When/where do you draw the line. We all think that we are gonna win or make a profit. But the truth is that the state which runs the lottery makes the profit. Right now for Powerball the have made a profit of more than $145 million from fools like us.

Somehow in your mind, you gotta think "this is bad for me" The way drugs are or everything else that brings you temporary pleasure. You can't really stop playing and go "I want my money back" you will keep going and diminishing you savings.

Really, if you play a dollar every drawing raise your hand. If so what are you doing on this site. You could do the quick pick at the store while moving on with you life.

This site does have any secrets. Maybe you came here to socialized, but that's my point, spend more time thinking about lottery, which is pure luck and also a waste of time.

This gotta be bad for you because the idea is that we all throw money together And person gets the pot and laughs at the other equally desperate people.

Or is this like a phase were you realize at some point it unnessary and get tired of it and move one. Their is gotta be losers more losers than winners.

My personality tells me it is a personality thing. This site is a collection of identical personalities. Because my brother takes out $10 and buys ticket for the next ten drawings on the same number, but I can't imagine him analysing and trying to figure his number out. Are some of you really like him? Maybe. Maybe you come to this site to watch us losers.

I don't know it all seems suspicious.

Since I came off sounding preachy, I would like you to know that I would continue playing. Just sometime I am worried about and need to share with you. After all this gambling pits me against you. And I think I can beat you little whimps. God must be on my side or the devil will burn me alive.

Getpaid I see from some of your previous posts that you play powerball. I can't think of a better investment for the price of a buck. Sure the odds are against us winning, but the people who win don't say that. They might say wow I can't believe it I won 125 million dollars. Or whatever amount they might have won. It really is a shot in the dark now isn't it. Just imagine you sitting in your chair when the draw your numbers.

I don't feel anything, cos I don't allow myself to get "lotto fever".

I don't feel it's wrong to think of winning millions of dollars, I haven't worked for, but yes the jackpot odds are astronomical.

I agree. There definately are real winners, but still it's a suckers bet (jackpot-wise).

The way I feel is having one ticket per drawing is fun, you are in the game and have a chance and can daydream about life with $50 million in the bank. If I get more than one, I feel I've wasted money and could have done something better with it.

I play the lottery for entertainment.  There are players who win and more players who don't.  If you can  afford to be a player, then you are not a loser, you got extra money to waste.  If you're wasting money you can't afford to lose then you are confused and should seek some help.

You can look at lottery profits any way you want. When people play the lottery they are also relieving some of our tax burden. If it weren't for the lottery our taxes would be much higher than they are now. Some states filter the profits to state run programs which is a good thing. The problem is regardless of where they get the profits from is their management of the funds.

So in essence when you play the lottery you are donating money in a sense of the word to help out your state. There are many reasons people play the lottery I like to play because I like to win money. Even when I have a losing streak I know sooner or later I will get the money I lost back. And it's a great feeling to win 5 or 10 grand and I only spent X amount of to win it all back plus additional money to continue playing.

Your only a fool if you feel like one...you are only a loser if you feel like one...you are what you think. I don't feel like either one.......I play for both entertainment and because I like to win and it is possible if you have a plan....you wouldn't go to the store without a  shopping list.....or would you?  My question is  that here in Illinois, the lottery proceeds /profits are supposed to go to the schools ( it says so on the back of each ticket ) then why are our schools in deep trouble/financially?  Good night !!

The reason schools are in jeopardy even with lottery proceeds going to them is because sometimes the states cut funding to the schools from other sources, and the lottery ends up becoming the entire source of the school's budget.

I don't know why their in trouble they report that 570 million lottery dollars went to fund education. And the state has whopping 20 billion dollar school fund. Sounds like mis- management to me. Illinois only contributes 33 cents for every dollar spent on lottery tickets. The other money coming from other sources. Somebody has their hand in the cookie jar. However a while back I think i read or heard a story that Illinois has one of the best run school systems.
