I finished implementing a neat little feature that I've been wanting to do for a long time.

One of the things that always bugged me is when I wanted to post the Address (URL) of a topic into a message, it's sometimes a pain in the neck to do nicely.  For example, if I find a topic from searching, and then I want to post the URL of the topic I found into a message, it comes out as this big long string of characters instead of a nice short URL, and the URL sends people to the search page, rather than to the forums.

So I created this feature on every topic that shows you the short version of the URL, ready to be pasted into another message.

It appears at the bottom of the page, just under the features for printing, e-mailing and tracking the topic.

Big bonus for Windows IE users:  When you click the URL, it is instantly copied to the clipboard, ready to be pasted in a message (or anywhere else)!

I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of this, I hope you do too!

Yes, I've seen that one, and there's also tinyurl.com.  However, when running a big web site like this one, you cannot rely on other smaller web sites like that.  If they were to close shop, I would not be in good shape.

Those web sites are good for personal home pages, and short-term solutions.  But I wouldn't use them for anything that was going to be around for a long time.

Just tried it, cleans up the search url and/or replaces it with the actual url of what the search found.  Nice tweak. BobP
