I've decided to compare my favorite Pick 5 lotto game and how it stacks up against the rest. First victim, NY's Take Five.

Matrix:

PA-5/39

NY-5/39

Advantage: Draw

Match 5 Prize:

PA-Min. $100,000. Average $200,000. Has rolled to over $1,000,000.

NY-$50,000 avg. Rarely ever exceeds $100,000. Does not roll over.

Advantage: PA +2

Match 4 Prize:

PA-Avg. $250

NY-Avg. $475

Advantage: NY +1

Match 3 Prize:

PA-Avg. $10

NY-Avg. $20

Advantage: NY +1

Match 2 Prize:

PA-$1 Cash

NY-Free Ticket

Advantage: PA +1

Total Advantage: PA +1

This one was close. But in the end PA won due to it's much, much higher top payout. Sure the big bounty players may not be the demographic Take Five was meant to appeal to, but it has to give a little more than 20% of the prize pool to the top prize.

Now I'll compare PA Cash 5 with CA's Fantasy 5. This should be a blowout.

    Matrix:

    PA-5/39

    CA-5/39

    Advantage: Draw

    Match 5 Prize:

    PA-Min. $100,000. Average $200,000. Has rolled to over $1,000,000.

    CA-Min. $50,000. Average $75,000. Record Jackpot of around $800,000

    Advantage: PA +2

    Match 4 Prize:

    PA-Avg. $250

    CA-Avg. $375

    Advantage: CA +1

    Match 3 Prize:

    PA-Avg. $10

    CA-Avg. $15

    Advantage: CA +1

    Match 2 Prize:

    PA-$1 Cash

    CA-Free Ticket

    Advantage: PA +1

    Draw Method:

    PA-Air Mix Machine

    CA-Computer

    Advantage: PA +1

    Total Advantage: PA +2

O.K. What I failed to realize is that this game is in similar vain to Take Five in NY. These games are meant to have big lower payouts, not big jackpots. But the draw method was the clincher here. As we all know, RNGs are not really random, or at least not as random as ball machines. So this got PA the win here, again.

How about PA Cash 5 vs Connecticut Cash 5 (with Kicker), which has a 58% payback?

        OK CO, I will.

        Matrix:

        PA-5/39

        CT-5/35

        Advantage: CT +1

        Match 5 Prize:

        PA-Min. $100,000. Average $200,000. Has rolled to over $1,000,000.

CT-$100,000 Flat, but may be pari-mutuel. And they have no concrete idea when that would take effect.

        Advantage: PA +2

        Match 4 Prize:

        PA-Avg. $250

        CT-$300 Flat

        Advantage: CT +1

        Match 3 Prize:

        PA-Avg. $10

        CT-$10 Flat

        Advantage: Draw

        Match 2 Prize:

        PA-$1 Cash

        CT-Nothing!

        Advantage: PA +2

        Extra Play Options:

        PA-None

CT-The Kicker, which will lower the overall odds to 1 in 12. And is just plain cool.

        Advantage: CT +1

        Total Advantage: PA +1

Well, PA barely squeaked by here. And that's because CT stiffs people who only match 2. I mean, that Kicker thing, how you could you not add it on? It makes CT Cash 5 pretty tough to beat!

          how about cash 5 vs.rolling cash 5?

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

How about PA Cash 5 v WA Quinto (playing cards)?
