ATLANTA – As the Georgia Lottery Corporation continues to welcome California to Mega Millions, Georgia’s biggest game ever keeps getting bigger with a free chance to win. The Georgia Lottery is giving players an extra opportunity to win big with Mega Millions.
From July 10 until July 16, the Georgia Lottery will be conducting a special “Buy 5, Get 1 Free” promotion. Players who purchase a Mega Millions ticket with five plays will get a free Quik Pik play on Mega Millions.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Georgia Lottery players to enjoy a free chance to win big,” said Georgia Lottery Corporation President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. “It’s a fun promotion for our players and a great way to raise dollars for the educational programs we fund.”
To play Mega Millions, players select five numbers from 1 to 56 and a Mega Ball number from 1 to 46. The odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 175 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 40.
Mega Millions tickets are $1 with jackpots starting at $12 million. Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. (EST) in Atlanta.
Mega Millions was launched in 1996 as “The Big Game” and was played in six states. In 2002, it was renamed Mega Millions and is now available in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, Washington state and California. The total population in all 12 participating Mega Millions states is over 150 million.
Mega Millions holds the record for the largest jackpot in North American history, reaching $363 million in May 2000.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
