Massachusetts players like choices, both between games and within games.

The Numbers Game

Switch to fixed payouts. It's one thing to have a pari-mutuel digit game, but when it's the only pari-mutuel game, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Daily 5 (formerly Mass Cash)

Switch to daily draws, change the top prize into a rolling jackpot, and give out a buck for matching 2 numbers.

Ca$h Winfall

Change to a 6/52, $1 a play game. Draws will move to Wednesday and Saturday. Payouts, minimum jackpot, and Winfall points will not change. This will help CW become MA's true flagship game.

Megabucks

The most radical change comes here. Megabucks is supposed to fill the gap between CW and Daily 5 (MC), and right now it's too close to CW as far as odds and payouts. I suggest the following changes to bring it more toward the middle between CW and D5.

  •
  • Drop 6 balls, become a 6/36
  •
  • Add cash option (beginning at $200,000)
  •
  • Add 1 draw and change draw days to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

And change the prizes to thus:

Prize
Odds
Match 6
Jackpot
1 : 1,947,792
Match 5
$500
1 : 10,821
Match 4
$50
1 : 298
Match 3
$1
1 : 24

Overall odds are 1 in 22.

Mega Millions

Well, maybe a Massachusetts Megaplier would work. Or maybe some sort of Instant Match? One thing is for sure, they need new playslips. Right now you can only play 3 per slip, and there's no quick pick option. Actually, no slips have quick pick, so that's another change.

You forgot the most important change for Massachusetts:

Get rid of the Numbers Game and go to a separate Pick 3 and Pick 4 game, with midday and evening drawings.  That move would be awesome for the players and it would make a lot of money for the state.

So you're advocating the removal of the single number option?

        js:

Everybody knows Mega$.uck$ needs a cash option. Lesser known is that Mass Ca$h is drawn just twice a week even though it's not jackpot-driven.

I'm advocating getting rid of the confusing Numbers Game and replacing it with separate Pick 3 and Pick 4 games, including midday and evening draws.  I think that's a pretty straight-forward suggestion.

As an option, I'd love to see a game like New Mexico's 4 This Way, which in my opinion is the best Pick 4 game out there.  With the terrible downside that it's a computerized drawing in New Mexico.
