Carolyn Adams, Superintendent
Illinois Lottery
Ms. Adams:
I would like to know why Illinois does NOT participate in a PowerBall style POWERPLAY option for MegaMillions. There are 29 separate jurisdictions in PowerBall and EACH and EVERY one offer a PowerPlay OPTION for an additional $1.
I thought the purpose of the game in ANY state lottery is to benefit the STATE and its chosen public programs (Education, etc.). Do you suppose all those PowerBall
states are profiting nicely from PowerPlay? Are you aware that the Texas Lottery Commission; a MegaMillions member; offers a MEGAPLIER option for an additional $1 and has done so since the first day it joined the party?
Your biography; from the website News & FAQs, Meet our Superintendent link states: ...Adams hails from a strong sales and marketing background... It would appear that this state is missing out on something PROFITABLE from this demonstrably successful program.
Illinois is COMPLETELY SURROUNDED by PowerBall states. I bet the majority of Illinois' MegaMillions players reside in the Chicago area. It is NOT unreasonable to journey to Wisconsin or Indiana to play PowerBall. I think You; being the head cheerleader for the Illinois Lottery; would prefer at least SOME of those PowerBall dollars be spent HERE. Perhaps the best way to achieve this is to compete HEAD to HEAD with a PowerPlay/MegaPlier type game OPTION in Illinois.
The MegaTripler promotion is a real disappointment to me. There is NO WAY this gimmick would entice me to play MegaMillions. However, show me how I could turn $250,000 into $1,000,000 or $10,000 into $50,000 for just a buck (more) and I will beat a path to your door !!!
Please advise me if there are any good reasons why Illinois does NOT want to participate in this type of program. I want to be an INFORMED consumer before I decide to move to Houston. (Only 100 miles from PowerBall in Louisiana.)
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
