A British expert on the psychology of luck found that although Lotto tickets bought in Skibbereen were slightly more successful than those bought in Dublin the difference was very small and not statistically significant.

But Pierce Hickey from Pierce Hickey’s Newsagents said: “Scientists can look at a situation any way they like.

“I think it is down to luck that a shop has five jackpots.

“And if you compare Skibbereen’s jackpot wins with Dublin’s, you will find that per head of population we are a very lucky town.”

Difficult to get motivated to argue with a man named Pierce Hickey.  If some limey expert wants to try taking luck away from Skibbereen he's going to have to find something with longer, whiter teeth than statistical significance to get the job done.

Absorb the good, ignore the bad, weigh the ugly.

    It's about number behavior.

    Egos don't count.
