LAVONIA, Ga. -- Somewhere out there, someone who lives in or passed through Lavonia, Ga., this week is a lot richer.
The winning ticket in the Lotto South drawing on Wednesday night was sold at Dad’s Restaurant in Lavonia, just across the South Carolina border.
The diner and convenience store is just off Interstate 85.
That $1 ticket, which matched a 1-in-14 million, six-number combination, is worth $4 million.
The winner could be anywhere because the store’s customers come from all over, the store's owner said.
"Everywhere, North Carolina, Virginia. People passing through traveling to Florida or Indiana buy a ticket," Dad's owner Carole Haynes told WYFF News 4's Kisha Foster. "We want to know who won it. Of course, we hope it’s someone local, one of our regular customers."
Not only will the ticket buyer get a big reward, so will the store.
The Georgia Lottery awards a $25,000 prize to any retailer that sells a winning Lotto South ticket.
"We're going to have a party. The employees and I will get together," Haynes said "We're going to rent a place and have a nice party."
The winning numbers were 9, 19, 22, 30, 38 and 46. Tickets for Lotto South are sold in Georgia, Kentucky and Virginia.
The winner has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize.
I wonder if it was a quick pick or someone chose there own numbers. This is a place where I stop once in a while when I travel to GA, it's right off I-85 and has pretty good country cooking. Anyways there really nice friendly people glad to see that store sold the ticket. Congrats to the winner
