Man I'm getting of writing about the Hoosier Lottery!  And I had to really search for this one:

OK...the Hoosier (Indiana) Lottery has recently (and again without fanfare or public announcement that I could find) just awarded their advertising contract to the firm of Brandy, Carrol, Hellige of Lousiville Kentucky.  The only blurb I could find on this came from the firm's news release page:

http://www.bch.com/news_room_hl.php

Why is this important?  Well, Govenor Daniels made a big deal of his opponent outsourcng Indiana jobs to firms located in other states.  One of his campaign promises was to keep state contracts with state firms.  here's a short blurb that outlines the issue better than I can:

http://www.howeypolitics.com/Main.asp?SectionID=52&SubsectionID=92&Article=529

But why is this a potential scandal for the Hoosier Lottery?  Here's another blub I found where a source claims the Executive Director (allegedly) misquoted something in the contract regarding commission's paid to the firm that previously held the contract and (allegdedly) neglected to mention that the new firm would be getting a commission:

I should make it clear that at this point I have no real factual data about this, only the information I have seen in these internet releases.  It will be interesting to see if this story has any traction.

    Hey!  My links don't work!

Actually I made a mistake in the last one.  It should be:

    http://www.takingdownwords.com/taking_down_words/2005/11/where_have_all.html

Ok...you can type them in manually and they will take you to the correct pages.  But they still don't link here  I wonder why?

Oops...the last one doesn't want to work at all.  Try using your search engine and typing in "taking down words" and searching from there.

Hmmmm?  I wonder what's going on?

Egad!  Maybe the Hoosier Lottery has gotten to Todd!  Nah!  More likely the Indiana State Police acting on information from the Executive Director of the Hoosier Lottery has invoked the Patriot Act and has begun monitoring my computer and blocking my transmissions.

Of course there is another possibility.  Anyone ever heard the phrase "user error?"

There was an extra underscore you missed.

To show a link, it's best to just copy and paste it, rather than retyping it.  To copy and paste, navigate to the page in question, then click once on the Address line in your browser, which highlights the entire text of the URL, and the press Ctrl+C on your keyboard.  Then, go into your Lottery Post message and click Paste (Ctrl+V).

In addition to the link always being correct, the other big benefit is that the link will be "clickable", like this one:

Check the State Lottery Report Card
What grade did your lottery earn?

Sign the Petition for True Lottery Drawings
      Help eliminate computerized drawings!
