I say yes because there is alot of good info on here and sometimes doing a search doesn't work as well as asking someone if they know where to find something.

It is OK to open discussion on old issues again, but it is also important that people use the Search feature to find out what was said before.
When you want to extend the discussion from a past [locked] thread, include the URL (link) to the old thread in your new topic.
To get the URL, scroll to the bottom of the thread page, and you'll find the URL next to the link graphic:
Microsoft IE users can just click the link, and it will automatically copy the URL to the clipboard, ready to be pasted into your new topic. Firefox and other users should highlight and copy the URL.

I voted "yes bring up past topics for new members sometimes."
I also think it's ok to "bump" older threads that are not locked IF they are about a topic that would be of interest to newer members ( for example, the "quick pick or your own numbers" poll ).
I agree with Todd that it is also important that people use the Search feature to find out what was said before.

Depends how old the topic is. Sometimes it's still in the first three pages and NOT ok. If it's not a recent topic then it's ok. Otherwise new people couldn't talk about those perennial topics like "cash vs annuity" or "are all lottery winners stupid".

Maybe it's me but I am not having a lot of success with the search engine... like I typed in GoArmy and I got nothing in return. I Wanted to see if he'd posted anything since his last post. I liked the old search engine better.
As for revisiting old topics.... if you want to re visit a a closed topic you should be able to send a request to the server to reopen the topic. Or Todd should lengthen the time a topic is left open to post to. Say up to a year after that if someone wants to re visit a topic... start a new one and include the link to the old one that the poster is referring to.

yea thats what i got references to his name but no posts in his username it was like his username dissapeared. maybe it was me i might have been tired. I typed his username and got a blank screen with no references to his posts. I eventually was able to check it out by clicking on his username in one of my old pm's from him.

I think new members posting old topics are ok. Some discussions are bound to be repeated, but I agree with dvdiva that if the discussion is on posts that haven't been closed. Then new topics shouldn't be started.
