It's just a tool, like a calculator is a tool. There is no "right" way to use it. The important thing is to understand how it work (what it does to a set of number you input), and then you can figure out where it makes sense to apply it.
Some people like to Deflate lots of predictions posted on the boards.
Some people like to Defalte past drawing results.
Some people have other software that generates numbers, and then they Defalte those numbers.
...And on and on.
It is the process of taking a large set of numbers and quickly pulling out of it what the commonalities are.
Of course the real advanced power comes when you also apply filters. There are detailed instructions for what each filter does, so they are self-explanitory. However, choosing what filters make sense for what you are trying to do is something you'll need to experiment with.
It's a tool that you will never stop learning new ways to use it.
