how did you get started playing the lottery?

i never had an interest in the lottery until i heard tennessee was getting one in january of 2004.i was living by myself and me and my girlfriend had been apart so my children weren't born yet.i had some money saved so i wasn't working and i spent hours studying the georgia lottery games such as pick 3 and pick 4.i got a few scratchers at midnight when the lottery officially started.i made it a point soon after to strictly play the numbers games and i have rarely played scratchers since.now for the feel good story part.after being broken up for months me and my girlfriend got back together in february.a couple months later we found out we were gonna have a baby and i was fixing to have to go back to work that summer because my savings was almost history.then in july i hit 486 ten times and won 5,000 dollars! now i had enough to get me by for a few months until the baby was born and to spend a few weeks helping out.in between this i had a couple more hits to sustain me.in 2005 our pick 4 started and i had two straight hits in one week for another 5,000.the numbers i hit were 7866 and then 6866 all within a week.months after this betslips came into being in 2006 and i quickly got two hits there also.one in march for 2,250 and another 2,250 in april.i haven't had much luck since the summer but we all go through losing streaks and winnings streaks.i've really enjoyed it!!

Great story LottoMike and great post.

I got interested when the lottery got voted in for TN.  I had an interest in the PB and Lotto 5 only.  I didn't know too much about the pick 3/pick4 games.

I work at a lotto store so I got familiar with it really fast.  I played only my birthday with the pick 3.  Of course it was a dollar gone each day. Then I decided to search the net for ideas.  I found LP ..  Then the rest is history.  It was the best search I have ever done on the net.

      Awesome thread here,LottoMike.

I, like tntea, worked in a store that sold lotto, a liquor store. The first week I worked there I sold a ticket to a guy worth $150,000 and from that moment on, I guess I was hooked! This was back in '89 before everyone had computers and you could have access to past results so when the store wasn't busy I'd stand at the machine and punch in every date one at a time printing out each past drawing. Took me awhile but from then on I'd study the numbers. I'd put them away for a couple of years but always come back to them. And ever since I got my computer a couple of years ago, my interest has come back with a vengence. The Lottery Post too, of course, has also helped fuel this passion of mine. So inspiring, unlike most of my friends and family who, most of the time, shrug their shoulders and tell me I'm wasting my time. They don't understand but it doesn't matter. My "new" family does!

      Thanks everyone!!    Group Hug

Great stories...Mike, I've been wondering the whole story on your lottery playing history thx for sharing.

I learned of this weird gift in the summer of 2003

I decided not to tell my family what was going on until that one day that I dreamnt I was eating ice cream with my mom and that It just looked and felt way to real (I woke up wondering why I wasn't actually eating ice cream, so I asked my mom if we had any in the freezer as I saw it...there was none). My dad said "what do you mean as you saw"...I said "I could swear I was just eating ice cream, but it was just a dream" So my dad decided to pull out 3 number books that morning, looked up ice cream in each one. It came in Michigan that eve or day in what is still now my favorite dream book, and my dad was just shocked to the floor and at my age I was a bit confused, but happy he was happy for some reason...he was looking at me really funny, in pure excitement at what I would soon find out I had...

I mean literally, I was in absolute shock. Even at that age, I was flabergasted...It was at that point that I knew I could make a fortune off of this by something that is just so natural to me. At first, I was telling people I respected and out of excitement what I could do when I shouldn't have...people who played the p3 & p4 for years without a hit...to have some one no where even half their age tell them that that they could pick a winner out of a hat...It didn't sit well with them at all, even as I offered to give them the numbers I dreamned for them to play themselves.

So I stopped telling, and started watching...all the time observing myself without a single hit, and I tell ya, them numebers were hitting almost every single time non-stop. I kept missing because I wasn't pacing myself...fast forward 3 and a half years later and I finally got it down pact. The first time I hit was when I finally "just got it", and started playing with a winning attitude on Aug 2 and Aug 3 both p3 & p4.

Havn't won since becuz I don't have the funds to play, been looking for a job during my dry periods...and I finally got the job, just waiting on the last call...by next month I will be seeing the thousands that Mike see's in my bank account, beginning next month!

Finding LP 3 years ago definitly has helped my game and I get to talk to like minded people, so I definitly don't mind sharing my #'s or personal strategies with the amazing people here. Loads of fun

I grew up in Jersey and people were playing "the numbers" way before there was a state lottery (equivalent to pick 3). The number was determined by the last three dollar digits of the total mutual handle at rotating race tracks. (The track was rotated to prevent any 'manipulation'.)

In fact, many state pick 3's are, or were, an exact copy of 'the number' (or' policy'), except the 'Guido' (AHEM!) had this thing about only paying $450 instead of $500 if you hit and the middle digit was 1.

As for big lottery, my first exposure to it was living in Germany. It was a 6 /49 game (Hessen Lotto) wih a "zuzatspielen", bonus ball for a runner up prize. Our neighbot down the street (well, down the strasse, lol) was the weatherman for the local TV station and he hit the jackpot.

My story is a little bit sorry but i am going to
mention it to point out other people's situation...15
years ago when i just came to the U.S I didn't have
nothing...And i've heard that my mother was very, very
sick and i couldn't afford to send her nothing...I
couldn't get a job and i was homeless...The only thing
i could think of making a substantial amount of money
to send her without having to sell drugs, robbing a
bank or involved in anything bad, was winning the
lottery. For example i thought of making money off of
pick3 or of hitting pick4 straight a couple of times.
So i began to study it, ask question, and a niece lady
bought me a lotto software,etc...Lots of people that
have it real bad, don't have no where to go and they
chose to sell drugs, rob banks, etc (i am not going to
go into details exactly of my life) and more
importantly what do some women chose? they chose to
sell themselves or join gangs...I knew couple of women
friend who chose to sell themselves to raise money to
help themselves or their parents...This scenario is
common in other latin american countries & the caribbean where some
people chose to emmigrate...I searched other avenues
that promise to make you substancial amount of money
legally and they all turn out to be a scam. But thanks
to God i was able to get back on my feet and my mother
is doing better than ever...I was able to go to college before joining the military...But that's how i became interested in the lottery...Back then i needed something like 40,000 dollars..

              Hey!!, you said describe...

I guess you would call me a minority.  I'm one of the few "YOUNG" players here.  I'm only 19 so I've not been playing that long.  My parents loved to play when I was younger and I would also help scratch their tickets and I helped pick numbers for them.  (I won my mother $1000 before).  So when I turned 18 I thought I would try.  Ever since then I've been buying scratchoffs (my favorite again another minority) and I always have a pick on Lotto and Powerball.  I play the same numbers and choose quick picks.  If there is anything I have learned by playing it not to take it seriously.  Play for the fun of playing.  Expect to lose so winning is much sweeter and don't go overboard playing.

How are you going to win if you don't play?

I lived in a state that had a lottery for ten years. Never played the pick 3 in that time. I was old enough but it did not interest me.

How I got started was When I started to listen to  talk radio in the eve hours. They use to give the daily draw results around 7:30 or so. So one day I was listening to it and they gave the draw results which was 236 and a few days later the draw results were 238. I did not write them down but I remembered them. A week or so later the 239 came out.

I did not know squat about numbers then. Still dont. Anyhow after  I heard those draw results I  says to myself I am going to play 237 straight.
Two days later it hit straight. Always been a straight player ever since. And the numbers still come out that way.
                      Reapeat exact pairs.

That was about 17 years ago.

Tnplayer, believe it or not, I just turned 18 a week ago, I am younger then you are. I've had quite a history and alot of experience in a very short time. It's pretty cool to see someone around my age on here. For along while I thought I was the only one...but I' really enjoy the wisdom shared regardless of age

I saw that Columbo!!  I don't remember the details, but I do remember the episode.

I've always liked playing games with numbers and letters.  All I needed was a scrap of paper and a pencil and I got a game of Hangman going. Those were the days before video games. I honestly can't remember when I began buying tickets on a regular basis. I know I definitely began purchasing them in MA and in NH sometime in the 70s. (I lived close to the state line.)  I don't think I bought tickets every week however.  I used to go to Vegas and also many islands in the Caribbean and the Bahamas with casinos.  On several posts on LP I've said the last time I gambled in a casino was in Aruba in 1992, but as I'm typing this I remember in 1993 going to Saint Martin/Maarten. There were casinos on the Dutch side. I wonder how I forgot that? When I moved to FL in 94, I guess I started buying Lotto tickets right away and I haven't missed a week in at least 10 years. I won't bore you with all the reasons I buy them. They change from time to time, but what never changes is that money is something that gives you more choices.

It all started when I was very, very young. I always loved watching the Florida Lottery drawings and the Illinois Lottery drawings (which is nationally broadcast on WGN). And my dad always played the Florida Lotto, and I always saw him getting tickets come Saturday night (it was once a week affair back then). Top that with their Flamingo mascot, and I was hooked a decade and a half before I could buy tickets.
