I'd like to hear from the veteran LP members who have seen it all. The constant stream of Powerball and Mega Millions draws being hit. Is this something that has happened before? I've only been playing both for about two years consistently, on and off for 15 years. I'm not upset about the constant hits, for the more hits, the more winners, the more families lives are changed. I'm just curious about is this a record?

I am not a veteran LP member but if I may, I would like to comment.
It is by belief that many things do what they do in cycles. The lottery is no exception. In casino gambling sometimes winners seem to come of of the woodwork. Other times long dry spells. However, there are other factors that may contirbute.
Do not forget the population is changing in this country and getting bigger. More people, more players, more winning tickets. Even though the odds are stacked against you, with the amount of tickets being sold, the number of hits has to increase.
I will give you a prime example -- in my state Florida, the Fastasy5 (pick 5) in years past would have two winners every once in a while. They added a new wrinkle this year called EZ Match to this game. It is like having a scratch-off along with your purchase of a draw. Even though it costs another dollar it has promoted more sales. The outcome is that almost every day there are multiple winners. The other day there were eight winners. This is not scientific but it looks like the more tickets sold the bigger the winner base becomes.

This actually has been quite unusual. I mean for the amount of tickets they sell at the beginning of runs....the odds that these are being hit almost every drawing are crazy.
And it is not just MM or PB....it is both!!!
I don't ever remember this happening so much in such a short amount of time.

This is the point for me as well Bradly_60, that both large lotteries are being hit constantly at the same time is more than a notion. It makes you take notice. I am not however putting forth a conspiracy theory. Enough of those are out there. I just want to hear how others view these occurences.

I went to Louisiana last week and got a few 3 draw tickets I think they were over dew for a hit and last night was the last draw and I didn't win. BUT was right on the over dew part. I think Chicago is over dew and Tennessee and Texas The last hits were over dew for some states Like GA Ia WI MI and so on 8 rolls is average

The "lottoreport" at the website of the same name by Dawn Nettles of Texas shows the PowerBall and MegaMillions sales and jackpots amounts side by side and by just eyeballing that report it looks like this is the first time both lotteries have had such runs at the same time, however MM had a similar run in Jan.'06.
I've been thinking about adding jackpot information to my data files and adding a feature in my program to look for these types of occurrences.

I think it only goes to show people that drawings are random and that all sorts of winning patterns can happen. I guess it depends on one's mindset. I don't need $100M. $15M would be just fine with me, so I never look at the size of a jackpot when I buy a ticket. I realize that huge numbers generate more sales, but if there are only 4 or 5 winners each year with so many millions of people playing, to me it only makes my chances of ever hitting it even slimmer. Just a thought.
Edit: By the way, just went back and noticed others wrote something similar. I've been rushing since I lost my last post. Having trouble right now with my computer. So I guess I can just say "I Agree Too!"

since the majority of wins are from quick picks i don't see anything peculiar about people wining smaller pots it just happened that the machine coughed up a winner because those balls were drawn. i wish it would happen to me, I'd be tickled.
congratulations to anyone that buys a winning quick pick ticket. I've won 150 bucks one time this year with a quick pick. And a few smaller amounts

Agree, all those QPs prove that it's random and not planned. Every Florida Lotto jackpot in the past several months, including single winners of $46M and $50M, has been won with a QP. So if anyone on the board knows of a way to wipe numbers out my memory so I can't remember my personal sets in case they ever come up, I'd appreciate it. I forget where I parked my car, what I went to the grocery store for and even my telephone number, but I can't block out these darn numbers! I'd sure like to start buying quickpicks without adding more tickets, but my timing in life stinks, so the day I stop my numbers will surely be picked.
