While i was reading my statistics books, i read something interesting from the factworld on the book...The books is elementary statistics 9th edition by Mario F. Triola..

I am 97% quoting:

"Each spring since 1917, in the small town of Nenana (or Tanana), Alaska they had a lottery with people betting on the exact time that their Tanana River would break up...The prize is around 300,000...The way they do this is they place a tripod on the frozen river and they connect it to a clock..the clock stops when the tripod is moved by the ice breaking up...

Proving that those folks up there in Alaska don't got nothing better to do lol : )...

A $300,000 prize in 1917?  Are you sure it wasn't 300 lbs of salmon?

Just kidding, Pumpi.  Interesting story.  I copied this from Wikipedia:

**Residents of Nenana have sponsored a lottery called the Nenana Ice Classic to pick the date and time to the closest minute when the ice covering the nearby Tanana River breaks, thus signalling the start of spring. This lottery began in 1917 when a group of surveyors working for the Alaska Railroad whiled the time they spent waiting for the river to open and boats with supplies to reach them by forming a betting pool. Interest in the pool continued, and spread through Alaska. This lottery has paid out nearly $10 million in prize money with the winning pool in recent years being near $300,000.**

I don't think they deduct taxes, but they freeze your assets.
