For some reason, Fair Grounds canceled racing after the 6th race so yesterday's race wasn't run.  It appeared to be a computer problem.

Today's race is the 9th race at Philadelphia Park.

It is a one mile allowance race.  I'm not very good at handicapping routes.  I prefer sprints on fast dirt.  But let's give it a shot.

My two favorites in this race are # 2 Oligopolist (4/1) and # 1 Ready Eddie (3/1).  This race starts very close to the first turn and favors the rail posts and early speed.  Oligopolist has the early speed advantage but can he last at the extra furlong today?  Fast Eddie has the rail and the best speed at today's distance.  # 5 Bombay (6/1) and # 4 Sudden Windfall (8/1) are going off at decent odds and could be a factor in the gimmicks.  The favorite, # 6 Schmoo (2/1) is giving this distance his first try and has the outside post but his trainer has hit 30% wins with shippers and 24% with sprint-to-route attempts.  Must consider.

2 - 1 - 5 - 4

Good luck!!!

Fair Grounds Cancels Final 4 Races of Mardi Gras Card

    NEW ORLEANS, LA. (February 20, 2007) --

Fair Grounds Race Course canceled the final four races of its Mardi Gras Day card Tuesday after a fire broke out in the men’s restroom on the east end of the second floor of the grandstand.

Upon arriving on the scene, New Orleans Fire Department officials requested that the six-story, 217,000-square-foot grandstand/clubhouse facility be evacuated, which led track officials to cancel the remainder of the card. A crowd of 2,657 was on hand, in addition to approximately 400 employees.

Fire department officials received the alarm at 3:05 p.m., or three minutes before post time of the sixth race, according to Fifth District Chief Jaime Lampard. Shortly after the sixth race, the building was evacuated.

There were no injuries, and the damage was contained to the restroom.

Fair Grounds has no live racing until Friday, when officials expect to race as scheduled.

The $75,000 Mardi Gras Stakes, the scheduled feature event of the afternoon, has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 26.

For customers at Fair Grounds and simulcast outlets, all wagers on the final four races are refunds. Consolation Pick 3 wagers were paid on tickets that were still alive and ending on the seventh and eighth races.

Tickets that correctly selected the first two legs of the Pick 6 received a consolation payoff. The $7,149 carryover in the Pick 6 for Tuesday remains for Friday’s program.

four4me, thanks for that update.  Unreal...but notice how they got the 6th race off before they started evacuating?  funny.
