Yes They made a mistake on the website. If you call the phone number on the back of your ticket, It should be $7550.00Smile

I think JE deleted the original post.  Just for completeness, the FL Lottery has the following info on their site this morning:

    0
    $6 Million

    $755.50
    4-of-6
    4,984
    $70.00
    3-of-6

Thanks, Todd.  Yes, I did delete it.  Since s5thomps was kind enough to answer me, I was going to post it again, but you saved me the trouble. My original post listed some previous payouts and said there must be a zero missing.  Still, isn't this computer generated?  It makes me wonder if I should rely on the information from their web site. Unfortunately, I only got 3 numbers which pays $5.00! At least this week I got some of my money back.

All info you see on the lottery web sites was entered by a human being at some point.  I believe the FL Lottery web site is run by an outside agency, so I do not think there is a direct data link to the FL Lottery central computers.

In fact, I think it would be a security problem for lotteries to connect their web sites directly to their central databases.

That being said, a smart design would have results and prize info for web, phone, press releases, etc. all derived from the same source.  That would require a good deal of coordination, not something I think they specialize at.

I think there might be a possible job opportunity for you, Todd!  (probably doesn't pay enough)

Edit:  You just cleared up a lot of questions for me, Todd, since I thought the posted results, including the locations and whether or not they were quickpicks, were from their central computer. This explains the numerous errors I've noticed for years.

Absolutely correct.  It kinda bugs me that there is such a weak link in the chain (a human being!), but when something is working well most of the time and it doesn't cost much (a few minutes of time each day), it tends to get little attention, and little desire by management to throw money at it.

The lotteries should hire me to act as their technical specialist to work with GTECH and/or Scientific Games (whichever is in their state) to develop a bullet-proof automated system for communicating results, prizes, and other info to the web (and phone, etc.).  I have a ton of experience with that kind of thing, having done it for huge companies in the past.

Technically speaking, it requires a message-based architecture with the proper layers of security.  That way they can hook up any of the vendors' systems with whatever web technology they use.

Will they do it?  I say "should" hire me because it is highly unlikely they would ever do such a thing.  They seem to prefer either working with local web companies that give them a "great deal" on web design/architecture, or contracting a huge brand-name consulting company so that their decision cannot be questioned.  And being a government agency they LOVE having companies produce huge bids for work.  They rarely just do what needs to be done.

When the D.C. Lottery was putting out bids for the new web site a few years ago I got the bidders pack, and I actually took it a few steps.  It quickly became apparent that it was better not to waste my time.

It's too bad -- for everybody, if you think about it.

Well, next time I can't get the information I need on their site, maybe I should send an email to let them know I had to go to Lottery Post to find it!  I did send an email when the site was down all the time, saying that it worried me that it took so long to post the results.  Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I really thought it was automatically generated after the drawing. Maybe I'm not the only one.  I didn't realize a human posted the information.  The reason I didn't call the tel number until s5thomps suggested it is I thought what was on the web site would be exactly the same information.  I always figured that the prize shown was incorrect, since I follow the results very closely every week. (which is why I posted in the first place.)  However, I also know that it is based on the number of winners and the dollar amount spent, so seeing $755 would have caused some concern had I actually gotten 5 numbers.  It's possible that a few of the 57 people who won $7,550.00 will get a nice surprise!
