A long time ago I referred to a new web feature that I built, but was on the fence about releasing.

Among the various reasons for holding off is that I was considering writing a technical article about it first, and then releasing it simultaneously.  However, I have come to find that I just don't have the time, so as a result the feature has been sitting there, unused for no good reason.

I have have come to terms with it, and I'm finally releasing it for you all to use.

Many people will think it's no big deal, but for me it's a BIG DEAL.  It required a helluva lot of work throughout the site to build — as you'll see it really does touch every page.

I have never seen this technique used on any forum or community site like Lottery Post, so I consider it to be unique and special.  (Just as I consider the Instant New Post Alerts to be unique and special.)  It is rare these days to be first with something.

It is a feature modeled after Digg Spy.  It allows you to sit and watch all of Lottery Post's activity in real-time, scrolling on your computer screen.  If at any time you want to see the actual page in the listing, you just click on it, and it opens in a new window (or tab, for IE7/Firefox/Opera users).

It shows when people come online or leave, when new posts are made or edited, when new lottery results and jackpots are posted, when new predictions are posted, and many, many other things/events.

The feature is available in the Resources menu, and is called Monitor Site Activity.

Here is the direct link:

http://www.lotterypost.com/activity.aspx

I hope you all enjoy it.

People who don't write code have no idea how much work goes into even some of the "simplest" looking programs. But, us coders know ... (plus we usually learn something along the way, so it's not totally thankless) Cool

        Thanks.

You know something that takes a long time?  All the graphics.  I spend so much time on finding and designing graphics it's ridiculous.  But after seeing the finished product it seems worth it.

I can see exactly where to go as soon as the "action" happens.

Seems more like a webmaster's tool, like checking page stats in real time.  Interesting, I always appreciate a peek under the hood.

Some other forums I've seen; have a line saying x number of members are online with the name of the most recent.  Nothing like this detail. Useful if you're looking for someone.
