It is very easy to speak of luck - bad luck, good luck, extraordinary luck or no luck at all. I believe it is not the event but how you interpret it. Yes, I've sprained an ankle in my time (my sympathies in your misery jxp)- lesson learned was to slow down and that each step is important. The sprain that came in darkness and one which I could not possibly have prevented made me realize that I may think I'm in control, but I'm not. Fate gave me the worst degree of sprain stopping just before the fracture. My orthopedic surgeon was actually crestfallen when he realized I was not going to require an operation. He didn't agree, but I considered that luck - an Aircast can be removed to scratch while a plaster one only allows an unwound coat hanger, if you're lucky.
There it is again, that word lucky.
Today I had the good fortune to be out running around in the rain. I made the acquaintance of a young lady who had a wonderful tiny dog with her that was as sweet and well mannered as could be. I asked the dog's name and she said that she had found the little dog on the side of the road, injured in the rain, last night. Her intention was to do her best to find the owner but the dog would have a wonderful home with her family should that not pan out. I am a person who typically talks to strangers when necessary and not much otherwise. I was compelled to talk to this young woman. She had this great aura and my impression was that this little lost dog had found its forever home. After further discussion and explaining that my heart is in animal rescue, I expressed to her that I felt she had done a wonderful deed in taking in this animal and giving it love, food and shelter in a world that would be very unkind to it in lieu of those things. I wished her the blessings and luck I felt she deserved under the circumstances for her good deed.
She turned to walk away from me and I noticed she bent over to the ground. She then turned back to me and asked if I had lost something I said no, indeed I had not.
From the ground at her feet where I had just walked, she had picked up a wide, solid 18k gold wedding-band-type ring.
I then jokingly asked if she would mind following me up to the neighborhood store so we could buy some lottery tickets together. We had a good laugh over it.
So, maybe some words that have numbers meaning - chocolate, gold, ring, poodle, lost, injury, found, fate (a little help from the Dream Team would be much appreciated). Who knows? Maybe we'll all get lucky! J
