I have been tracking it and it is definitely rotating as the moon does, so not a star.

Is it a recent satellite sent up there? I'm thinking the Japanese one?

i thought at first it was also a star, but it seems to be rotating counterclockwise around the moon.  Example, i noticed it at about 6 with it located at about the 5 oclock postion, then i saw it every few hourse and it progrossed counterclockwise to it current position of about 2 oclock?

All this while the moves itself moves across the sky.

Also the light, while looking through binoculars, seems to be a yellowish reflected light, ie the sun shinning on it then to our eyes here on Earth.

Will watch it tommorrow too. Maybe it's a Christmas sign or my numbers are due !! ))

It does have that red-yellowish color of it.

Thanks, cause for a moment i thought the aliens had a ship up there watching us.

            Cool

Must be mars, they are about 8º  apart now.

I have to get out the telescope and show the grandkids.

Did some reading this morning. It is Mars, but I don't recall Mars ever being that close to the moon. Earth is supposed to pass between Mars and the sun soon, and Mars is the closest it will be to Earth until 2010.

By the way, the star Sirius really looks cool right now.
