Just a heads up:  I going to see if I can do an upgrade to the web server this evening, which will involve taking the site offline for maybe 15-20 minutes.  So if the site suddenly stops responding for a bit, that is probably the upgrade taking place.

For those who care for technical details, I'll be upgrading the server memory.  Most of you are aware of the sporadic outages the site has been experiencing over the past couple of weeks.  There is a possibility that it is being caused -- at least in part -- by low memory conditions.

Let's put it this way: I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's happening.  I have built a lot of programming tricks that take up a lot of memory in order to make the site run fast.  Most sites couldn't handle a forum with a million messages posted, or a predictions system with 150 million predictions posted, let alone allow people to page through all of those posts and predictions in real-time.

Only time will tell if the memory upgrade will help, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Even though there have been times where I was screaming bloody murder after 4 hours of not being able to access the LP, I know it's for a good cause...lol

Do whatever it takes to solve the problem..lol

BTW...A nice lunar eclipse tonight in the eastern sky...

Todd that's why I was replaying yesterday that i wasn't able to reach your site sometimes when I need it, but as an It pro, I know that this kind of proccess takes sometime, well anyway I was feeling all the  way down when it happened, but I think that we will be better with a new and stronger system you are upgrading to, best luck with it

The memory upgrade has been completed.  Thanks everyone for your patience with this (and with the other miscellaneous outages).

FYI, I'll probably have to do one more reboot shortly, and then hopefully we're done for the night.

Looks like the upgrades helped a lot, Todd.

The site's pages are loading faster than ever before for me, anyway.

Indeed!  I'm seeing the same thing.  I think much of that has to do with programming changes that I've made when trying to fix the issue.  There are some pretty neat techniques that I worked on that accomplished the same thing as before, but more efficiently (faster, and taking up less memory).

I also got a chance to fix one of my pet peeves: the order of the games listed on each state's results page.  Previously they were alphabetical, which actually made it difficult to quickly scan.  Now they are in order of game matrix size, with each midday listed first.  I think it's easier to read.

Thanks for the feedback sfilippo (and everyone else above).
