I hate to admit it. I am a nerd. Not a big time nerd, but a nerd nontherless. (but I hate Star Trek) I like to collect a few action figures and stuff. And I also collect Japanese sci-fi model kits occasionally.
Certainly I wouldn't collect all the action figures out there. Just a few. I just bought Iron Man action figures (Mark 3, Mark , and Iron Monger) and I am happy with them. I go for quality, not quantity. I am spending most of my income on my car payment so I don't have enough financial resource anyway. I am trying to find a part-time job at retail stores but they tell me I am overqualified. Yes, Target and Wal-Mart don't hire college seniors as cahiers... Sad. So I applied for a library page job. The pay is minimal, but I'd be happy to work in an airconditioned environment. And I love to organize stuff, except for my room. :D And I love Lego. I can't help it.
I can guarantee that I will spend decent amount of money on my toy collection if I win a jackpot. Not to play with them, but to collect them for display and study their designs. (I am an art major)
If I win a jackpot, the first thing I'd buy is a income property or two. (If I win something like 300million bucks, then I would be on a real estate shopping spree...) I really don't want to touch the principals. I'd put all the effort to maximize the cash flow. (I am not a fan of Mr. Kiyosaki, though) I won't buy a house until I save up enough money from my cash flow. I will probably rent a nice (but not fancy) 2-bedroom apartment in Pasadena or Marina Del Rey.
Depending on the cash flow, I won't be spending more than 10000 bucks a month. And that includes the rent and utility. I like good food, but not the fancy ones. I'd probably get all my food from organic food store. I'd buy all my clothings from GAP or Banana Republic. Probably some nice suits for formal occasions, but no top-notch brand ones. Car? Maybe a 2010 Prius. Nothing fancier.
If my jackpot winning is really 300 millions, then I can do my dream project. I can open my own video game studio. The cash flow will allow me to hire about 30~35 people as the staff. That's a small to medium size gaming studio. I will save up the incomes from the cash flow for a year, then will find some good advice and help from existing publishing companies. Maybe Blizzard/Activision or Take 2 Interactive will give some help when I set up my video game studio.
And I'd invest some money on mining business in Mongolia. 80% of the territory in Mongolia is unexplored and chances are the country has large amount of gold, tungsten, copper, uranium and stuff. If I am really lucky, I can get billions from putting my mining company on international stock market.
Then I can open my own film and animation production company...
