One ticket matched all six numbers in the August 29, 2008, Mega Millions drawing to win the estimated $132 million jackpot. The winning ticket was purchased in Mableton, Georgia.

OK I'm seriously getting irked and worried about this. Georgia is winning all these JPs lately, and there's ALWAYS a $250K winner at least. And Georgia doesn't even have a top-5 population of all MM states. MM is drawn in Georgia...I call BS...

Tell us how you feel when folks from Idaho, Montana, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont - win Powerball (?)

Geographical 'winning' goes in cycles, and if you would research it, you would see that.

No it doesn't. I did research it. Perhaps you should do your research.

Also, I don't play PowerBall, and don't plan on it. MegaMillions, as you know, is compromised of the "big population states" i.e. California, Texas, New York, Ohio, Michigan, et.al, plus some "small population" states, such as Georgia. Powerball is compromised of mostly "small population" states.

well in 2006 it was Ohio every one was getting upset about winning the Major jackpots and if I am not mistaken in 2005 it was New York ....in 2007 it was Texas ands New Jersey with 2.25 jackpots each and it was 9th ranked New Jersey beating out 2nd ranked Texas by approx 40 million annuity dollars....This year its Georgia and a very quiet Michigan with 2 jacpots each...however Georgia only has 36- 2nd teir prizes and Michigan has 31, while New York and California are tied with 77 each....

In 2007 there were 12 MM jackpot hits for a annuity value of 1.56 Billion Dollars .....while in 2008 ther have been 8 MM jackpots for a annuity value of 967 Million Dollars.....

I don't think you can yell conspiracy because of Georgia taking top honors for one year.

I don't put so much stock in annuity dollars earned per state (as far as JPs are concerned). The reason: California could win three jackpots at 12, 16 and 24 million respectively but Georgia, with only a fraction of California's population, can also win three but $100 million each. While you look at the annuities, Cali has $52 million and Georgia has $300 million, you look at the number of JPs won, and cross reference it with the population base.

Now, one could say people in Georgia play the lottery more often but good Lord, do you know how much more, per capita, they'd have to play down there just to play MM as much as Californians?

Okay, but I really dont know why you should get irked at Georgia for winning 2 jackpots this year.
