Hi all,
I'm new to the site (lurking for a week or so), and also relatively new to playing the lottery.
I bought my first (and previously only) lottery ticket on my 18th birthday. (I'm 24 now.) I bought it because "I could" and didn't think much about it otherwise.
I didn't play again until about a week ago. I think I didn't play (or didn't even think of playing) during the gap because I didn't know anyone else who played and quite frankly, because I didn't have much disposable income as a student. (The time period roughly corresponds to college, then graduate school.)
Part of what made me think about the lottery again was that someone at work mentioned (in passing) buying a ticket. (It probably also helped that the MegaMillions jackpot has rolled over a few times. The building across the street from where I work has a digital sign advertising the current MegaMillions jackpot.)
While exploring my options, I bought tickets to a few different games. I think (from my very brief playing experience) that I really like the regular Lottery (NY) and the multi-state jackpot games (MegaMillions in my case) the best.
I didn't like the instant (scratch-off) games at all, and didn't particularly like the games that are drawn daily. My immediate impression is that I enjoy buying tickets to the jackpot games, drawn twice a week, more than my other options.
I get that the "odds" are against me, and I don't really "expect" to win anything. Given that, my lottery ticket is a ticket to daydreams and what if's, and I'd like to prolong the dream as long as possible. I can feel a happy spring in my step when I know I have a ticket and everything's still a possibility.
I think I may be hooked. ;)
Hello to everyone! I'd love to get the opportunity to talk to all of you.
When did you start playing? What attracted you?
Where are you from and what do you play?
