I just finished installing significant improvements to the jackpot history page for each game, with expanded statistical information, native currencies (for non-US dollar jackpots), and US dollar equivalents.
The Jackpot History page for a game can be viewed by clicking on the game, and then selecting "Jackpot History" from the popup menu.
For example, here is the Mega Millions Jackpot History page: https://www.lotterypost.com/game/45/jackpot
Here are some examples of some non-US Dollar games.
In the new statistics, notice that it not only tells you the largest jackpot size, but it also tells you how many times the jackpot has reached that level, and the date of the last time it reached that level. The other stats have the same tyoe of analysis.
However, the biggest and most difficult part of this new functionality was the conversion of the Lottery Post jackpot database to be fully able to handle native currencies, and to reconstruct all of the non-US Dollar data in multi-currency. (You can see on the sample pages that the database is storing both the native currency as well as the USD equivalent.)
All of the conversion rates performed — even on the historical data — were done using the actual conversion rate that was in effect on the day of the drawing. In order to do that, I had to reconstruct a history of conversion rates going all the way back. It was a pretty big job.
Although it was a big job, I think it's well worth it. The jackpot data at Lottery Post is now — as far as I know — the only lottery jackpot database to have this kind of historical detail, providing the ability to do analysis and general stats that cannot be achieved anywhere else.
The multi-currency jackpots show up anyplace jacks are displayed. For example, the main results page shows a top-10 jackpot list. And the Wordwide Jackpots page shows all of the jackpots available in the database, sortable in a variety of ways. Also, the individual state/province results pages will show native currencies, if they are used.
Although Lottery Post traditionally has (and continues to have) a huge US-based audience, it's worldwide viewership has increased a lot. Showing jackpot amounts in the native currencies is very important to that audience, and the Lottery Post-exclusive US Dollar equivalent information is a great way to compare jackpot amounts between different countries.
Behind the scenes I have constructed a very accurate currency-conversion system, which can apply both real-time and historical conversions accurately and quickly.
I also took the opportunity to fill in some missing data. All of the following games now have both lottery results and jackpot data (with native currency and USD equivalent at the time) going all the way back to the first drawing of the game.
Your Feedback (please!)
I am looking for your feedback on the new jackpot statistics.
I came up with some stats that were of interest to me, but I know there are lots of other ways of looking at historical jackpot data.
Do you have additional views you'd like to see? How about different ways to use the multi-currency information?
