Mega Millions

A single winner has taken the $207 million jackpot from the latest drawing of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery.

The only ticket to match all the winnings numbers from Friday night's drawing was sold in Piqua, Ohio.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be on Tuesday night with a jackpot of $12 million.

In addition to the grand prize winner on Friday, 23 players won the second prize of $250,000: 2 from California, 3 from Georgia, 2 from Massachusetts, 2 from Maryland, 2 from Michigan, 2 from New Jersey, 2 from New York, 1 from Ohio, 6 from Texas, and 1 from Virginia.

The two California second-prize winners will receive $256,907 each.

Another 113 players won the third prize of $10,000.  16 of those winners, from California, will receive $8,758 each.

The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 10, 16, 19, 27, and 48. The Mega Ball number was 25.

The Texas Megaplier was 3.

Sales for this drawing were acutally really high.  Over $77M tickets were sold.  Just think though, that many tickets sold and it still leaves 100,000,000 combinations still uncovered.  Wow.

Congrats to the winner or winners of the Mega Millions jackpot! Piqua is a relatively small town and I am sure that the whole town will be buzzing today. I hope that it went to someone who needs the money and is truly deserving. The Piqua town moto is "Where vision becomes Reality." Someone has the chance of a lifetime to improve their life and or to improve the lives of others. I hope this doesn't turn into one of those sad but true lottery winners stories we so often hear about.  According to Wilkipedeia, Piqua is believed to be a reference to the Shawnee Indian phrase: "Othath-HeWaugh-Pe-Qua" "He has risen from the ashes!"  With the economy being in turmoil and people losing their retirements I hope it went to someone who was down on their luck and knows the value of a dollar and can "rise" above their situation.

Cheers

I agree!  I thought I won Florida MegaMoney last night which was "only" a million (I won $22.50) and my heart began palpitating rapidly when the page displaying the numbers first loaded.

LOL, talk about a let down!

But $22.50 is better than average.

Congrats to the winners! White Bounce

I think I am around 130 miles from Piqua. I am in Mount Vernon, Ohio. I so much needed that 207 MIL.

Good luck to the new winner! Smile

As it turns out, it was more than one person (according to the Dayton Daily News):

The mayor of Piqua says the single winner of the $207 million Mega Millions jackpot from the latest drawing is a group of city workers.

The only ticket to match all the winnings numbers from Friday night's drawing was sold at a Kroger store in Piqua.

Mayor Thomas Hudson said the winners were a dozen city employees — including some from the street department — who pooled their money and bought a ticket.

Hudson declined to name the employees and an attorney for the winning group could not be immediately reached on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Hudson said, "I'm excited for the city. I hope some blessings come from it."

An immediate benefit is the Piqua Kroger's plan to donate its $100,000 in lottery proceeds to local charities, Hudson said. With the economy slow and some companies laying off workers, the donations will be welcome news to charities, the mayor said.

"It couldn't have come at a better time," he said.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be on Tuesday night with a jackpot of $12 million.

In addition to the grand prize winner on Friday, 23 players won the second prize of $250,000. Another 113 players won the third prize of $10,000.

The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 10, 16, 19, 27 and 48. The Mega Ball number is 25.

Congrats to the them!  Funny, I kinda thought it would go to a group.  Didn't think that many though!  So was it 12 total?  Or 12 in the one group plus a few from another?  So it could be 14 or more people?

Good Christmas gift for a lot of families and thats great!   The store name sounds familiar.  Seems like a winning ticket was sold at a Kroger before?  I wonder how much they pooled together.  With that many, could of been quite a few tickets.  Can't wait to hear the whole story.  Hopefully they won't keep us waiting too long lol.

I hope that someday Washington can hit......and I hope it will be me!!

corius$1918!

I certainly hope the winners were the group of city workers. I like reading the stories about groups as opposed to one person winning such a large amount.  Can't wait to read their stories in the upcoming weeks if they come forward. I'd be in hiding. smile

Congrats to the lucky winners in Piqua! For 12 in the pool and if they take the cash option it'll be a little under $7 mill apiece after taxes!

I am kinda worried that the winning might be too big for one single winner.

Now I don't envy big prize winners and I just wish that there would be a lot of small prize winners than just a few big winners. A few millions can make a huge difference. Why desire 60~80 millions? Unless you have some serious plan for a big business, you don't need to win that much.

Of course, if I won 207millions then I would set up my video game company and animation studio. :)

It sure would of been nice to hear of some Lottery Post members capturing part of that 207m; congrats to all the winning ticket holders. I hope they have a safe Happy Holiday.

I'm with you Emory.

Okay LPers,

Let's all move to Ohio,  get jobs as state  workers  in the same department and form a lottery pool.  It seems like our chances  of winning MM would improve ten thousand fold.

hehehehahahhahehehehahah

Congrats! It not the big one, but that is a decent hit, especially on a jackpot game. How much did you spend?

Thanks for bringing it to California Cali,

Well at least some of it.  Mega Millions seem sto hate me.  I hate yet to get 1 number (seriously) on the rare occasions that i play a QP, so I will  stick with our Super Lotto Plus.

Okay, let's make it official.  You  win the next Mega Millions and I'll win  SLP.

Big Smile

I was very excited to see a group of people from Piqua win Mega Millions!Hyper I was born and raised there, so that made it even better! Big Smile  The only thing I was wondering was if I might know any of the 12; if any of them were from Piqua originally.  If anyone knows any of the group members' names, please reply to this.  If you want to reply at all, that's cool, too!Smile

I agree with you MaddMike51.  Congratulations to all of them.

I felt like I was the winner.  Well I am waiting until the jackpot gets high and I start playing again.  There is a reason for everything.  I do need the money for myself and family but I will wait for my turn next in line.

Halle99,why wait for the jackpot to grow before playing again? The jackpot starts at $12 million.Thats nothing to sneeze at.

You have to look at the odds vs. the jackpot amount, in which case most States' regular Lotto can provide a life-changing win with a much better dollar-vs.-odds "return". But I play at least 1 even in a low drawing but save the $5 plays for a big jackpot.. the $1 you'd spend on the $12M save them all for the $50M if you like. My goal though is have one strong set of number rather than 5 weaker sets..

I have not been near Piqua since Year 2000, and passed the exit for it in 1997-98, also the first time I played Powerball out there. I know people in Columbus but it's not likely they were in the pool.

Since it was a group, it is not likely to be picked numbers but rather QP being that whoever picked those numbers may feel they deserve a bigger share, leading to disputes over the jackpot, the last thing you want to happen. There are rare cases where picked numbers can be used but I would assume QP here.

I remember a year ago... I put in a pool near here.. and the winning ticket was "in Morris County"... very very close!

It was a $5 ticket (all QP's). My husband and I only play when the jackpot gets above $40mil, so all told, we probably spent $50? on this jackpot over the past few weeks. I don't have many other vanity items that I throw money at (no Starbucks, no magazines, etc.), so I figure $10 a week when the jackpot gets high enough is worth it...after all, I might win some day ;)

We took the winnings and went out and bought my husband a new iPod (which obviously cost a bit more then $157, but it covered most of the price). Now he can stop using mine!
