Ok my brain is fried right now.

I need help in figuring how many combinations from the following:

0 1 2 3 4

5 6 7 8 9

I'll get it started.  I think it should be 32 combinations.

01234, 01239, 01284, 01289, 01734, 01739, 01784, 01789

06234, 06239, 06284, 06289, 06734, 06739, 06784, 06789

There has to be alot more.  and if there are doubles, etc., a gazillion!! Maybe there's a wheel somewhere to do it.

Steve, explain what you are trying to do. Are you attempting to put all 10 digits into groups of 5?

You have it right for what combinations you are looking for.

two numbers taken one at a time for five different selections.

one selection is 2! / ((2 - 1)! · 1!) = 2

five different selections is (2 · 2 · 2 · 2 · 2) = 32

That IS box combinations, the calculation is the same that works for Powerball, Mega Millions, etc (which are BOX games).  Straight would be 10^5 = 100,000 combinations (counting repeats possible, as well as doubles, tripples, quadrules and quintuples).

Think I have a little Lex-dys-ia ....

I don't know of any game using 0-9 digits for a 5 digit base. ......(let us know Steve).......but if Steve wanted to use all 10 digits in a base 10 system it would be .....

10^10 = 10 Billion         and thats 10 Billion Straights  LOL             1 followed by 10 zeros ...   LOL

These would be combos for Pennsylvania Quinto Draw.

The 0 & 5 would be the 1st digits.

So you would have so many combos starting with the 5 and so many combos starting with the 0 (zero)

I guess 32 combinations would be correct.

First off, Quinto is a 5 digit numbers game, such as pick 3/4, correct?  I figure as much since I see results like: 5-1-0-0-1 and 7-9-7-2-0.

First number 0 or 5:

Calculate the other 4 combinations like a pick 4 game, each having 10 possible digits, like numbers are allowed.  10^4 = 10,000. 2 ways for each combination (0 and 5) = 20,000 combinations for Quinto starting with either a 0 or 5.

How do you get 32?  No singles, doubles, tripples, etc?? what about 0-0-0-0-0 through 0-1-2-3-3?  Not counting any of those?

Oh, maybe you're saying using only these 10 digits no more than once, 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 and 0 or 5 needs to be in the first position.

Well if a 0 was in the first position you would have 9 other digits for 4 positions to choose from, leaving you with 126 BOX combinations (9!/(4!(9-4)!)).  The same applies for combinations starting with a 5, so you have 126*2= 252 combinations.
