He occasionally wins raffles and stuff. And he once won 2500 bucks from a Nevada casino. But he is never a regular lottery buyer. He only buys the tickets every couple of months.

I work at my dad's store and we had a talk over lottery tickets. He told me not to tell anyone if he wins a jackpot. Since he seems to have more luck than I would ever be, I guess he has a better chance for winning a jackpot.

I told him that I just need a house and a steady flow of passive incomes. We agreed that real estate is the place to invest if he wins a big one. I told him that he would need to hire a lawyer if he wins a jackpot. I don't want him to just walk into a local lottery office and do the whole news conference thing. I told him to set up a trust through a lawyer.

Come to think of it, I don't want to win a jackpot if my dad is the one who's destined to win. Like I said, I just need a house, a steady flow of income, and some cash assets in CDs and money market.

The problem is that my dad is a very sociable person with so many acquaintances. He says that he should go back to Korea and lay low for years if he wins a big one. But this will give some suspicion to my relatives in Korea. See, my clan is a really big one. It would suck if my relative start hawking over my family. And my uncles are greedy as hell. Come to think of it, winning a jackpot will bring a real nightmare to my family.

Dad has the luck. You have the cash.

    You give Dad the money.

    Dad buys the ticket(s).

    Numbers match the winning drawing

    Dad gives you the ticket

    You claim the prize

Dad gets a generous "allowance" from you, without the guilt of having to say "no".

Yeah, that would be ideal. But my relatives will all jump on me if they find out. :(

The only two reasons why I want to win a jackpot are: 1. Insecurity and lack of self-confidence 2. Uncertainty of the future.

I will be graduating college this May. I hope I can get hired right after the graduation, but you know how economy is. And animation studios are getting hit by the bad economy, too.

Well, that's the trade-off. If Dad is too friendly to say "no", then it's your job to become "Mean-ol' Red DevilAmbelamba".  LOL

If it's a cultural thing that neither you nor Dad want to challenge then your next (to keep family peace) step is doing like those California teachers -- www.lotterypost.com/news/188929 -- and having everyone chip in long before the tickets are bought. No late entries. Full year, up front, no excuses.

Eventually you'll still have to say "no" to the ones who burn through their share faster than you.

Otherwise, better start working on that image. If it were me, they'd already be singing it...

        GuitarMean ol' Ambelamba
never know what s/he might do.
        Mean ol' Ambelamba
ain't even got two kind words for you.

Now Ambelamba gonna win the lottery (none for you)
and tell us all what we can do (what we can do)
said don't let the door hit us in the backside
or we might go home wearing a third shoe.

For you folks too young to know about 'classic rock', the melody is from "Sweet Home, Alabama". Razz

Set up a mini syndicate together and split the money halfway when you win. It's better with half of a jackpot than no jackpot. Idea

Remember to get the agreement on paper.
