Hey gang all you code peoples could someone tell me how or if you can get open office to random pick numbers from a set like:

1834

5946

2573

0718

What I need is like Pick 1 number from each line randomly so I end up with a set of 4 such as (1920): 1 from first line 9 from second line 2 from third line and 0 from the last line going down. Any help or pointers would be appreciated Thanks in advance.

basic process i would use is generate a random #'s between 1 and 4. use the random # as an index into your number, using the mid command.  from your post it appears all four digits would be in 1 cell, so use your random # in a mid command to identify the position of a number.

in excel the above would look something like this:

          random command

=int((rand()*4))+1      gives interger max value 4, min val 1  repeat as many time as needed in this case 4

mid command  assume rand #'s in c1,d1,e1,f1   data #'s in a3,a4,a5,a6  mid command in c3,d3,e3,f3 etc

=mid(A3,C1,1)  ETC   adjust your reference for each number

hope this helps you.  I rarely look in this forum.  post excel questions in mathmatics forum will get you a faster answer.
