After reading and posting on the Small Winnings Tax Question thread, I am compelled to ask..... How well do you know your state lottery? What things do we take for granted? What are the lottery retailers required to do as far as cashing our low tier tickets? What are the payment methods they have at their disposal? Are they required to pay you cash or can they pay you by check or money order? Although the retailers sell you the tickets, do they have to cash your ticket? What does your lottery commission say about this?

I am a Texan, And here in TX the TX Lottery Commission specifically states that:

"All retailers are authorized, but not required to pay prizes of $599 or less. Retailers are not required to keep cash on hand to pay all tickets. They have the option of paying by check or money order. If they choose to pay by money order, they may not charge the player any fee money order."
