  I came across a website with a wheel that generated 13 five number combinations from a user provided list of 25 and I noticed that several of the combinations shared two number combinations.   Shouldn't a wheel generate combinations that do not share 2, 3 and 4 number combinations?    That is, sharing a two number combination between two of the five number picks that you purchase only reduces your chances of getting a two number hit although it would increase the amount that you win should that two number combination be a hit, in other words sharing a combination is in fact purchasing tickets with the same numbers (the odds aren't better but you have multiple wagers on that outcome).   I would imagine that wheels should optimize your chances of getting a hit and hence would insure that none of the combinations generated shared smaller prize value combinations.

  Have an example? Can't quite envision what is meant by the description given! Also what website are you talking about?

  They won't let me post anything that even looks like a link to websites, needless to say, it was just a wheel generator where you entered 25 numbers and it produced 13 combinations.   Looks like a fixed A B C D E F type of wheel, essentially arranging the numbers by placement in the list of 25 candidates.

  A wheel will guarantee a certain size match if certain conditions are met and sometimes duplications of some combinations can't be avoided with that guaranteed.  Download a copy of CoverMaster from Lotto-Logix and you can check or optimize a wheel if you think it has too many combinations.

   * you don't need to buy every combination, just the winning ones *
