    Derby Perspective-

With the obvious deminishing interest in the KD there is one historical aspects people forget, which helped the Kentucky Derby come to such prominence i.e. it was the track's using parimutuels long before the other major course gave up the bookies. Thus a steady stream of money coming in versus losing all to the books, they were able to offer big purses to lure the best.

If the weather is too extreme should they run next week?

Churchill May Cancel May 1 Workouts

      http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac...-may-1-workouts

      Excerpt:

With a forecast of rain overnight and heavy thunderstorms in Louisville, Ky., there is a possibility that training at Churchill Downs will be cancelled May 1, according to track superintendent Butch Lehr.

"If the weather is really bad, there is a possibility we will not let them out there," Lehr said April 30, as sunny skies baked the large crowd on hand for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I).

      Excerpt:

Lehr said the timing of any April 30-May 1 rain is critical. He said that water would be applied to the track throughout the Oaks card since the wind is blowing at 15-20 miles per hour. Following the April 30 races, the track will be harrowed and sealed, allowing any overnight rain to drain off.
National Weather Service saying 80% chance of heavy rain in Louisville on Saturday & flood watchs are not good indicators.
Cancelation could cause all kinds of problems......

          Hello:

I might drive to Illinois and place a bet, but, I haven't been paying attention.

Last year, I drove to Illinois to play pick 3, and I could have bet on the Derby, but, I didn't, and I called the winner in the race.  :-(

I found a interesting book at the $1.00 store.

"Black Maestro"    The Epic life of an American Legend,   Author Joe Drape.

Jimmy Winkfield-  Kentucky Derby in 1901 and 1902

          The Struggle is real!

My pick,  Lookin At Lucky @ post 1:

The way trainer Bob Baffert reacted to drawing inside, you’d think they were making Lookin At Lucky break from behind the starting gate.

Maybe you can’t blame him. In both starts this year, Lucky got stuck in traffic and was tripped up by other horses. Most horses wouldn’t hit the board after the trouble he had, but he recovered both times, winning the Rebel and finishing third in the Santa Anita Derby.
