Gap Strategy - Alpha and Numeric Groups.
Just about every serious Pick 3 player is looking for a way to reduce the playing field.
Keeping track of 1000 individual 3-digit combinations is a daunting task, even with computer
tracking.
Gap Strategy has a method, thanks to the power and magic of substitution, to greatly reduce
the field.
Instead of 1000 combinations, Gap Strategy players choose between 64 3-letter Alpha Groups representing
all possible 3-digit combinations. This field is further reduced by choosing between 20 4-digit number
groups, which also represent all combinations.
The overall name for this process is 'alphanumeric substitution' where the 10 lottery number digits are
represented by four letters of the alphabet - A, B, C and R.
The Alpha Groups can be further reduced to numerical groups composed of the numerals 0, 1, 2 and 3.
THIS TECHNIQUE OR METHOD IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO PLAYERS USING GAP STRATEGY.
In other words, the tools that make the conversion possible are contained in what is known
as the Alpha Identifier data stream, which is created by the actions of 3 other data streams on the
basic Gap Strategy worksheet.
The AID has two components, alphabetical and numerical.
Here is the fixed Alpha Identifier stream: 1A, 2A, 3A, 4B, 5B, 6B, 7C, 8C, 9C, and 0R.
Depending on the AID sequence in play at the time, the 3-digit winning combination of 748 could be
converted to Alpha Group CBC.
Only alphabetical component is used to form Alpha groups.
The numerical component can be used, but that's a different method, which will be explained in time.
When 748 comes up again, it could be converted to AAB.
This is no doubt a new concept that requires more explaining, which will be presented in due time.
As indicated previously, 1000 3-digit combinations can be represented by 64 3-letter groups.
Here are the 64 Alpha Groups:
AAA ABA ACA ARA
AAB ABB ACB ARB
AAC ABC ACC ARC
AAR ABR ACR ARR
BAA BBA BCA BRA
BAB BBB BCB BRB
BAC BBC BCC BRC
CAA CBA CCA CRA
CAB CBB CCD CRB
CAC CBC CCC CRC
CAR CBR CCR CRR
RAA RBA RCA RRA
RAB RBB RCB RRB
RAC RBC RCC RRC
RAR RBR RCR RRR
The numerical equivalents vary depending on the AID generated for a particular set of winning numbers.
However, AAA is not always one specific number combination.
Basically, the groups are 'guide posts' because they help a player decide, in conjunction with other data, which lottery
numbers have the best chance of winning, while keeping in mind that it's a random drawing where anything is possible.
An inventory shows that some of the Alpha groups tend to come up more often than others. In fact,
the groups beginning with R are definitely in the minority.
The 20 Numerical Groups are:
0003
0030
0021
0012
0111
0120
0102
0201
0210
0300
1011
1020
1110
1101
1200
2001
2010
2100
3000
Explanations:
Number Group 1110 means the Alpha Group has 1 A, 1 B and 1 C, or ABC
0201 means the corresponding Alpha Group has 2 Bs and an R, or BBR
0300 means the AG has 3 Bs, or BBB
1101 means the AG is ABR
In practice, a User must decide which Alpha Groups he/or she wants to play for
a particular drawing.
He/she could use the Numerical groups as guide, depending upon inventory totals.
In Texas Pick 3, numerical group 1110 comes up almost twice as often as any other
group.
Personally, I usually choose 1110, ABC, add the R to form ABCR and then wheel
the results to obtain 4 combinations to play.
The big question at the moment is how is ABC used to obtain 3 lottery numbers.
The details will be in the next post.
Stay tuned.
