Gap Strategy - Straight and Box Plays. (Part 1)The Gap Strategy pen and paper workout for Pick 3 has a data stream that can be used, in conjunction with
other data streams, to construct 'structures' for both Straight and Box plays.The data stream, called Hot Alpha Identifier, is used to substitute any 3-digit lottery number
combination to a corresponding alpha group consisting of three letters, A, B, C and/or R.These 'alpha' groups (ABC, BCC, ABR, etc) are used mostly for 'straight plays.'
The alpha groups can then be used, in turn, to construct four-digit 'numerical identifiers'
(ie, 1011, 0201, 0300, etc) that are used mainly for 'box" plays.Of course, a player can 'mix and match' depending on his/her betting style.
There are 1000 3-digit combinations in a Pick 3 game.
Keeping track of which combinations have 'come up' in recent and past
drawings is a formidable task.In some strategies, the digits are assigned an alphabetical value, usually 0-A, 1-B, 2-C,
3-D, 4-E, 5-F, 6-G, 7-H, 8-I, 9-J.A lottery combination of '946' can be converted to 'JEG', etc.
Maintaining an inventory of 1000 numerical combinations and 1000 equivalent alphabetical
groups, and deciding which combinations have the best chance of coming up next, can be a daunting tasks.The Gap Strategy method takes a different approach by reducing the choices down to a more
workable level.Sure, there are still 1000 combinations, but the 'Hot Alpha Identifiers' aid
the selection process in manifold ways.For example, using the Gap Strategy method, 1000 combinations are covered by
64 3-letter groups. Additionally, the 64 alphabetical groups are used to form 20 4-digit
'numerical identifiers.'How can this be?
The magic of substitution.
If you are currently using GS, you, of course, know what the Hot Alpha Identifier stream is
and how it is generated.Perhaps, you extended your knowledge of GS and have already realized how the 'numerical
identifiers' are generated, and how keeping track of them can aid selection of numbers to play.A hint: The numerical identifier '1110' comes twice as often as any other identifier.
What does '1110' stand for?
It means the combination to be played should contain one A, one B and one C.
What do the letters stand for?
In Gap strategy, the 'A' is a substitute representing 3 different lottery numbers.
Likewise, the B is a substitute for 3 different lottery numbers, which are also different from
those represented by A.Further, the 'C" is a substitute for 3 different lottery numbers, which are also different
from the six represented by A and B.The "R" is used to represent the 10th digit, but it represents only one number,
which varies from drawing to drawing.The 'R' becomes a factor when any numerical identifier ending with a '1' is under
consideration.The actual digits within a group change from drawing to drawing, or not.
The numbers do not repeat, that is, the digit 3, for example, can only be in one group.Only 6 of the 20 total identifiers require a player to select an 'R' to go with two letter choices (i.e, ABR, CRC, RCA, etc).
The task for the lottery player is to choose a number from each grouping to form a
3-digit playing combination. Hopefully, the winning combination will match the one played, either as a 'straight"
or 'box.'How do you choose?

Are you saying that I have to adopt Gap Strategy in order to use this playing method?
Correct.
The link provides a step-by-step set of instructions.
However, and this is important, the Fixed Position Identifier sequence has been changed from
F1F2F3F4F5L1L2L3L4L5 to RF1F2F3M1M2M3L1L2L3.When used for number generation, the PID determines which of 10 gap numbers is to be
used to obtain a lottery number.I made this format change to resolve a 'missed by one' issue. That is, the workout
correctly identified two of the three digits, while the third choice was frequently
off by a digit.Simply adding a digit is not a solution.
The impact of the change means GS users have to 'reset' their workouts. But, the change is
worthwhile and provides more reliable choices. With two drawings per day, it doesn't take long
to establish an adequate set of data.End part 1.

Although I have tried to get the columns to line up, it doesn't always
work. Therefore, I strongly suggest anyone interested in this playing
method transfer the data to graph paper.

Gap Strategy - Straight and Box play, Part 3
Before explaining the playing worksheet, alpha groups and number identifiers, I
think it would benefit interested parties if I review what Gap Strategy is and how it works.This information can be found via the link at Part 1, but a refresher at this point
could be worthwhile.Several people expressing an interest in Gap Strategy have requested a review.
Gap Strategy is not a number generator per se. It's a pen and paper workout
that entails creation of several related data streams that, taken together or
separately, help players decide which numbers have the best chance of winning.
There are 4 major data streams: Lottery number, Gap number, Position Identifier and
Alpha Identifier.The lottery number is used to generate a gap number. A gap number is used
to generate a PID. The PID is used, in turn, to generate a two-part AID.There are 10 lottery numbers, 0 thru 9.
There are 10 gap numbers, 1 thru 0
There are 10 PIDs: R1 F1 F2 F3 M1 M2 M3 L1 L2 L3.
There are 10 AIDs: 1A2A3A 4B5B6B 7C8C9C 0RIn practice, the AID stream is divided into 2 streams, one for the number component and
one for the letter component.The letter component is used to generate Alpha groups.
The number component is an aid to selecting Number Identifiers.ACTIVE CELLS
An active cell is a singular piece of data, such as a lottery number, that is still IN play.
An inactive cell is one that has been crossed off, obliterated or otherwise marked to
show it is NOT in play.This is important.
The Lottery and Gap streams each have exactly 10 active cells.
A lottery or gap number stream with more or less than 10 active cells is an error, rendering the workout a waste time.
In other words, no repeats allowed.While the Position and Alpha Identifiers each also have 10 FIXED components, repeats are allowed.
In fact, it's the repeats that aid selection of lottery numbers to play.An EXCEPTION is with Line 6 of the workout where repeats are NOT allowed.
WORKSHEETA basic worksheet (graph paper with standard cells) has 6 lines of data.
At the top of the worksheet enter a Fixed PID - R1F1F2F3M1M2M3L1L2L3
Line 1 - Hot Lottery number
Line 2 - Position Identifier
Line 3 - Hot Gap number
Line 4 - Alpha Identifier, letter components AAA, BBB, CCC, R
Line 5 - Alpha Identifier, number components 123, 456, 789, 0
Line 6 - Hot Position Identifer.HOT is used to STRESS that repeats are not allowed in the stream.
Line 6 is usually placed at at the bottom of the worksheet. It always has exactly 10 active
cells.DATA GENERATION
The data streams are the Gap Strategy life lines.
Current and correct data streams are mandatory.
Every drawing combination MUST be added to the worksheet and processed according to
specified procedures.Otherwise, the data is garble without a purpose.
What are the specified procedures?
Assuming the folks reading this post have read information in the Link, and other
posts regarding Gap Strategy, the following example is Standard Operating Procedure or SOP.Note: Transferring the data streams to graph paper will aid the learning process.

The next winning combination is: 741The digits are processed one at a time.
GENERATING THE GAP NUMBER:
The new lottery number 7 is added to Line 1.
Moving from right to left, count the number of active cells between the new 7 and the 7 already in the stream.The count is 3.
Add a 3 to Line 3.
Mark off the 7 that was already in the lottery stream.
GENERATING THE PID:Line 3 - Counting from right to left, determine the number of active cells between the new Gap number 3 and 3 already in the stream.
The count is 8.
This where things get a bit dicey, so to speak.The 8 count has to be made with a PID stream that has no strikeovers and no repeats.
Because Line 2 will eventually have repeats, an alternate counting method is required.
The Fixed PID line at the top of the worksheet is used as a counting aid.
Beginning with L3 and moving from right to left, the 8th cell coincides with F2.
Add F2 to the end of Line 2.
Add F2 to the end of Line 6.Mark off the 3 that was already in the Gap Stream.
GENERATING THE AID:
The AID is found by counting the number of active cells in Line 6 between the recently added F2 to the F2 already in the
stream.The count is 8.
Add 8 to line 5 and C to Line 4.
Mark off the F2 that was already in the Hot PID stream.
The updated worksheet (without strike overs) is:

After a few drawings, the lottery and gap number lines contain a mix of active and inactive cells.Next Lottery number to be processed is: 4
Generating the next Gap number.
The new lottery number 4 is added to Line 1.
Moving from right to left, count the number of active cells between the new 4 and the 4 already in the stream.
The count is 6
Add 6 to Line 3
Mark off the 4 that was already in the lottery stream.
Generating the PID:
Using the Fixed PID counting aid, beginning with L3 and counting right to left, G6 coincides with M1.
Add M1 to the end of Line 2.
Add M1 to the end of Line 6.Mark off the 6 that was already in the Gap stream.
Generating the AID.
The AID is found by counting the number of active cells in Line 6 between the recently added M1 and the M1 already
in the stream.The count is 7.
Add 7 to Line 5 and a C to Line 4.
Mark off the M1 that was already in Line 6.

Generating the PID
Using the fixed PID counting aid, beginning with L3 and moving from right to left, G9 coincides with F1.
Add F1 to the end of Line 2.
Add F1 to the end of Line 6.Mark off the 9 that was already in the Gap Stream, Line 3.
Generating the AID:
The two-part AID is found by counting the number of active cells in Line 6 between the recently added F1 and the F1
already in the stream.The count is 9

The EXACT same procedure is used for additional lottery numbers.
Comment: Some folks say generating the Gap Strategy streams and other data is, in their opinion, 'too complicated' too
'time consuming' etc.I disagree. If the 'standard operating procedure' is too difficult for the average lottery player, then I have to
wonder what is being taught in our schools.As was indicated in the Link, there are several Inventory and tracking logs associated with Gap Strategy.
These must be updated prior to processing the next lottery numbers.
Details about the logs will be in Part 4.
